Can existing 8886 owner help here?

I recently noticed that my 8886 battery would die wuthing a minute of power being removed from the AC adapter. I read some posts that said I may be able to reset the battery by reseting the BIOS (removing the round battery for a minute).

Thats's where my problems started. Now that the BIOS has reset, I realized I have no idea what it was originally set to. My computer now takes MUCH longer to boot. As soon as the XP Pro logo shows up, the screen goes black for about a minute. During this time the hard drive light flashes once every few seconds, then it eventually boots as normal.

I am getting a hard drive 0 error in event viewer. Can someone tell me the right settings for the BIOS? I never changed a thing when I bought the laptop, just loaded Win XP and life was good. I now know my battery is shot, but I would at least like to get the boot time back down to normal. The manual doesn't state what the BIOS settings should read, but something has changed.

Thanks,

TomD.

Not sure what the settings are for the 8886 - I thought Sager set the defaults to be the optimal ones...

Anyway, did the resetting of the BIOS help with the Battery Life?

No, my battery is shot. It seems the Sager charger keeps charging the battery even once it is fully charged, shortening its life. I'm think of adding a switch to take the battery out of the circuit for normal plugged in use. 18 months is really not enough for that $135 battery.

I tried the default settings and they did not work. I think it was set different from default though, because default settings have a beep on power up, and I never heard that before. Since I never heard that beep before, it makes me wonder what other settings were different than the default ones.

Forget it, I got it working right by resetting the BIOS again.

Thanks,
