Next month?

And I that wanted to order today.... Now I have to consider the S series...
Wonder if the hard drive will be 4200rpm? If it is, totally not worth the $2000.00 price tag.
Twopiece- Name me another ultra-lite taht packages anything other than a 4200 rpm drive and I'll agree with you. That's the best video/screen/power/size combination in a package that small right now. When you deal with ultra-lite's...it's a whole 'nother ball game.

BTW -What were you going to order Ender?
I was going to order either the Compal 56 or the Mitac 8050. Also, regarding ultraportables and hard drives, the P5020 Fujitsu lifebook takes 7200 rpm drives.
Oh I"m sure it can take it. Does it come with it? On a side note, can the S ever be equipped with a 7200 drive? I heard somewhere that it had some special drive size?

Just in time for me to return this A190 and get my S

If you buy it from PortableOne, which is an authorized vendor of Fujitsu, yes it comes with it.

Hey PLC, did you just order the A Series to test it out ... or did you really want it, until you found out the S Series is only a month away?

I was just about to buy the A Series, but now am intrigued by the S Series, and will most likely wait to see that black little demon.
I was curious about the A 190, screen, performance, etc

If it blew me away I would keep it, and it has, except for the keyboard and the size (doesnt even fit my TUMI backpack)

Power adapter is huge and battery life is 2 hours max.

Therefore I will test some more but I dont see myself keeping this machine... the S type fits me needs better.

Sony has 30 return policy you just pay for shipping.

Great news. It's good to hear they'll be around in retail to go take a look at before ordering.

The only thing that's bugging me about the S is lack of S-video out. It's not even on the port replicator. Do you think the video card would be able to drive a standard television signal with a simple VGA to S-video dongle? I really don't want to carry around another little box to be able to output to TV.

If I get an S, I'll wait to hear from you guys if the CPU and HD are easily replaceable. If they are, I'd probably get the lowest spec HD and maybe the slower CPU, then swap in some better parts.

On the other hand, I might hold out for the Alviso/X600 revision...

We are forced to There is no other notebook with the specs of the S series in such a small package.
you know what's funny, when i've walked into circuit city recently (the last 3-4 times) someone has been at the service desk gesticulating wildly to a rep with a pained look on his face, a vaio sitting on the table in front of them. thought it was very interesting like the third time it happened.

You hear the same thing about every notebook manufacturer.

Here is Sony's press release. The spec sheet is quite disconcerting.
the specs of the vaio i got were great at the time too.(like 3.5 years ago) the problems i had with it;

like the internals of the ac port melting(i sent it back 2 sony twice and they fixed it but it broke again a few days after it came back both times, i had to like stack books/alot of tape ontop of the cord where it attatched to the computer to keep it in place) if the wire ever fell out of place and i didnt notice, it would switch to its battery than turn off, or just turn off when it stopped recognizing the battery.

parts of the harddrive burned out/died very fast, it started as a 20 gig hd, now its only 12, dont know what happened there.

the entire line of laptops the i had bought my vaio from had voltage problems and the battery never lasted more than 15 minutes, compared to the 2-3 hours it was supposed to get, now it cant even run on battery, and no sony wouldnt fix this, because the entire model of vaio was like this.

i can understand if a laptop had problems, but sony support also sucks, and took way to much time, they also charged me for shipping back to me both times i sent it in. one of the times was before the 3 month warrentee was over, but they took so long to "diagnose" the problem that it ended up being past warrentee time, so they charged me the shipping.

well, thats what happened to me, i had a vaio fx-210 by the way.
