Frocer, sonystyle Japan does not ship internationally. I checked last summer when I was in Japan and was thinking about ordering an s-170 right before I left.

One thing I really want to know is, can the sony S260/270 with the 32mb radeon 9200 handle world of warcraft?? this is a key factor for me in figuring out whether to get one with the radeon 9700

Considering my GeForce 3 classic can handle WoW perfectly fine, I think 9200 should not have any problem. Though I would go with a 9700 anyway.

When you say fine, you mean with the settings to really low right? Would i have to do something similar on my 32 mb 9200?

How would Half Life 2 play on the S with the 9700 graphics card?
Sort of playable, but not great. 1 gig of RAM would probably help a lot, as would 5400 or 7200 rpm drive, for load times.
But if I get the S360, its got 512 of RAM. I'm not a giant computer expert, but how would games play on that? Thanks
post #1470 of 1493
Games would play fairly well, as long as you don't have too many other things running. You can add another 512 to it for around $100. The bigger bottleneck will be the speed of the hard drive.

My s260 with the 9200 plays Half Life 2 fine, I even play the DM with it at times. Of course I don't turn it all max settings, but at a high resolution, I get good enough frame rates that don't distract me. I just got WoW installed, but I haven't given it a run yet. I agree.. the bottle neck is mostly the hard drive, but that's doesn't affect the gameplay much.. only your patience.

Really? That's great since I was planning on playing Half Life 2.

Is it possible to switch the Ati 9700 mobile with a Ati 9800 mobile
post #1474 of 1493
no
To be more detailed, absolutely not. Other than the fact that the card is soldered in, the S series isn't designed to be used with a card that powerful that runs so hot. Even if you could ge it to fit into the case properly, you would probably suffer rather severe heat damage.

Lol i can see the blue screen of death.

How does Doom 3 run on it?

Does it do well in medium, high or dare i say it ultra? (i wish)
You'll be seeing a smokey screen of death.
I haven't tried Doom 3. Vampire: Bloodlines (based on a very un-optimizd version of the Half Life 2 engine) runs very well on it with all of the settings maxed out. Strangely enough, it runs better than it did on my last laptop with a 128 mb MR9700 and a faster hard drive.

Argh i gotta wait til summer to get one

In which case you'll get a more powerful machine for less money!
