From the looks of it, the UK version only offers the 9200 32MB GPU ... the one from Japan is at least the 9700 GPU with 64MB.

To complicate matters further, I learned from a reliable source
that a CUSTOMIZABLE version of the S150 will be available on
the Sony Style web site as of tommorrow (July 7th).

Reread this thread. There is definitely a UK model on sale with the 9700, which has been linked a few pages back.

Yeah, there is a uk model w/ 9700 but the page is down. Things are rolling along. I don't think we will have to wait very long. A month tops. Man, I hope so, tht xbrite screen is miles ahead of others.

This may or may not have anything to do with the 9700 in the S, but it's worth noting...

Starting in September, the company also plans to roll out new models exclusively for the channel, Abary said.

While some of the products are similar to those aimed at the retail and direct channels, they are differentiated by their standardization on Windows XP Professional, said Abary. In addition, they are slated to feature product life cycles of six to 12 months instead of the typical four months, and can be configured and built to order in San Jose, he said.

Included in the program are pricing discounts for government and education users.

Price with VAT: 1,594 Pounds Sterling
Price w/o VAT: 1,356.60 Pounds Sterling

Then add shipping.

The only way they will do this type of arrangement (selling and shipping to someone outside the EU) is by direct funds transfer to their bank. That's why you can't do an online order.

You can email to them to begin the process.

I'm going to wait for a while to see if the S1VP model goes on sale here. If not, I'll order it from them. If anyone here orders from them, could you let us know how the purchase goes?

Thanks.
Ok, am I doing this right? The universal converter I am using totals that up somewhere between 1,821.21 USD - 1,971.05 USD! That can't be right, can it?? That's including the 116 EUROS for shipping to the US
post #187 of 1493
No...not right. Total with ship would be 1472.60 pounds = 2713.71 USD as of 7/7 exchange rates. This is for the S1XP model. That about what I expected to pay, yeah , quite pricey but the whole package is great. Hey I noticed that model also comes with the dvd burner as well, bluetooth too!

Go to this site, http://www.convert-me.com/en/, scroll down to currency conversion, it automatically does the conversion at current rates.

Ok, I'm using EUROS which has to be wrong then, because I still get $1800 ... what currency am I suppose to be using?
British Pound. The exchange is even higher than that of the Euro. Britains' way of screwin' us because they lost the war....
I just emailed laptopsdirect.co.uk

the response i got was that they do NOT ship outside Europe.

Can you give me a direct contact with Joanna so I can speak with her directly?

This deal is pretty sweet if it ever works out. Stock shows they have more than 20 in stock for the 9700 video card model
post #194 of 1493
cool. another way tha you could go would be to send it to some sort of trusted contact over there and then have them ship it to you themselves. kinda risky but certainly possible.

I noted that as well and sent an email to Sony asking for clarification. If/when I hear back I'll post the results.
The S-type has a TRUE 16:9 and not 16:10 display? 1366x768 - that's kinda cool... at least according to sonystyle.
yes it is cool, now try to find a game that supports it!
Just talked to "Adrian" from Sony Live Help and he confirmed the 9700 GPU is only 32MB. Obviously, when I drilled for more info about the 64MB I got, "I am afraid we do not have this information"

What the hell is sony doing? ... Oh well, I may settle for it.
