VAIO Type S - Page 4

Of course, what do you expect from brand name companies? you pay a few thousand more for the few more square inches of label. unless, of course, you buy from sager.

Thats probably because it is the lower end model. In japan there is the one with the 9200 and the one with the 9700. I hope it is the same over here...
yup, i'm sure the 9700 will make it over eventually
the question is how much will it cost =)
seeing as this um 9200 model is almost 2 grand, i really pheer what the sony execs are cooking up for their US launch of the high end Vaio S

But take a look at how this Sony is equiped. We all know Sony over prices on everything, including their RAM and their "upgraded" HDDs.

This one has a 60GB instead of a 40. It also has 512, instead of the lower end 256, which Im sure sony sells for about 100+. Then it has wireless G instead of B, as well as a Dothan 1.6, instead of a lower end Banias 1.3-1.6

I imagine that that notebook equiped with the minimum, ends up at around 1500, just like the sony v505ex/dx/ whatever other name they have for it.

i have been drooling over the specs for this computer since it was announced and was in tokyo at the time however they werent schedule for releas until mid-june and now i am back and have just checked one out and all i can say is that it was a disappointment... i am not sure about the performace but i have owned vaios in the past and they generally average...

what is really got me is the build of the machine, granted the computer looks amazing from a design aspect, but the keyboard is the worst, gummy type in the world and the plastic is so thin on the case that the it bent when i picked it up... the screen looked okay, nothing special... (the new hitatchi Prius widescreen looked great) and it is disappointing that there is no video out....

i bought a toshiba tablet in the meantime and was going to buy the vaio S in tokyo and return the toshiba when i got back to the states but i am stuck... the toshiba has a great, higher res screen and build but of course the video card is terrible and there is not optical drive....

BTW has anyone figured out if the HD can be replaced in the SONY?

Of course it can be replaced.

There is even a German shop that will sell it with the HD you like.

http://www.notebook-shop.de/main.php?section=start

The S1 doesn't show yet in their page but they've confirmed it by email, although they sell an English version but probably more expensive than in the US.

But a good shop for European members of the forum

I don't consider the S series ultra lite. You want ultra lite look at the X series, U, UX, and TR. And why wouldn't the S series be able to carry a 7200rpm drive? Because their Sony?

thats the lowest of the low i can get for the v505, at least on sonystyle.com. $1700 bucks for a 12.1'' xga with a 9200 32Mb.

you're telling me that the S, with its 13.3 inch xbrite, m10/m11, and superior build quality will be priced at close to 2 grand?

yikes, i don't know about that. i'd love to see it, though.
me too! i want all sony stuff to be super-cheap because i've seen too many really good but really expensive sony products that i can't afford and i don't like buying stuff on ebay.

2 months ago the v505 was going for 1,500 on amazon and at some other big retail store. I know of several people that bought it at that price, and I at that point was considering purchasing it at that price.
you're referring to a refurb model

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...866035-9550266

new ones on amazon go for almost $2 gs with close to these specs:
Sony VAIO PCG-V505DX Notebook (1.40-GHz Pentium M (Centrino), 512 MB RAM, 60 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive)

here's one sold by amazon themselves, $1850
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...DKIKX0DER&st=*

office depot also sells the same model/specs for $1850 through amazon.

sony is horribly overpriced

any bets for lowest vaio s price with a m11 card? im guessing $2500
post #77 of 1493
Nope, dont think it was a refurb model, but might be wrong. I will try to look through a thread in another forum where we discussed the v505 at that price.

like i said those are refurb
best new price on your link is $1980
dont sweat it man you're safe you bought a compal =)
That is a refurb? I know it is no longer on sale at Amazon, but nowhere was it mentioned in the thread that I cited that it was a refurb... I think someone else might have caught it. Before it used to have the button where you could buy it, but it no longer has it.

But yeah I did buy a Cl56
