Yeah, I'm interested to see what 64mb cards get with Doom3, as well.
This guy over at [H]Forum has done some testing on notebooks:

wondering how doom will run on your mobile system? look here

It is a different coverage plan. It isn't through Sony, it covers accidental damage, 2 screen replacements, 2 battery replacement, and AC adapter replacement.

What's the model number of the 80 GB 7200 RPM Hitachi drive, that everyone seems to planning on upgrading to? I've bought stuff from newegg.com in the past and been pleased with them. Are they the recommended vendor for this drive? A product link to the drive in question would be most helpful.

Thanks.

Greetings everyone - I took some photos of my new VAIO S170 and thought I would share them. You may notice that the photos showing the computer itself are rather blurred - some oil from my fingers found its way onto the camera lense. It is not too bad, some of the shots just look like they are direct out of an old soap opera. I put my hand in one to (hopefully) convey a sense of how compact this machine is. The last five shots (taken with a cleaned camera lense) are of games, I could not find actual photos of the S170 screen running games before I bought it, and I thought others might like to see. All five are stretched to fill the widescreen display. Even an older, low res, adventure game like Bladeruner looks very, very good on this screen. So, on to the pics...

Great pics. I like the uncleaned lens pics too...makes the machine more "dreamy." ;-)
hey clarknova, what is the game on the last pic?
The last two pics are both Neverwinter Nights - the first of those is in 800x600 and the second is in 1024x768. Both are streched without preserving the aspect ratio, but that is rather apparent

I just got my machine yesterday, so I'm still testing things out. 3DMark03 scores on or around 2654 when I've tested it (with default drivers & omegas - but, as someone already pointed out, omegas aren't optimized for benchmarks anyway). I'm thinking of trying without power management on, but even with the default VAIO optimized setting I am getting great performance. A buddy of mine is going to test Doom 3 out when he gets a chance. I would but I am not a big fan of motion sickness induced vomiting.

I think the VAIO Type S is way too overpriced if you are not using it for gaming. I bought a similiar notebook that was much cheaper identically configured VAIO. It's not apples to apples because I didn't purchase a harddrive. But the laptop is close. It's not a dell or alienware its from the odm. It's an awesome lappy for college and travelling! Otherwise that VAIO is awesome for portability and gaming potential.

And what notebook is this? All I see is specs and price, and I'd love to at least have the name so I can check some reviews and stuff. :P

That's true. I've been comparing the S170 to the Fujitsu S6210 ($1499). That's a huge price jump only for a 64MB 9700 (vs. integrated graphics). The price difference is enough to upgrade or even build a desktop. The Fujitsu has a similarly excellent Crystal View screen and even S-Video out (which the S is missing). For general usage there wouldn't be any difference.

EDIT: I just found cisco's earlier post:

Just ordered Xplorer WL notebook from Cyberpower

Uniwill N223II0

It's what the Alienware Sentia is based on.

cisco, what site did you buy from? Cyberpower's site is down at the moment (which doesn't inspire confidence). Also, how is the screen? Does it have a wide-viewing angle or do the colors change a lot when you tilt the screen or move sideways?

Was it EKM?

Thumbs up for Blade Runner! One of the best adventure games I've ever played! Holds up really well, even many years later.
Yes, it was from www.ekm.com. I'm waiting for the laptop to arrive. It was already shipped. Should be here in a day or two. I will post a review once I get it. I saw it when I was deployed overseas. The viewing angles are excellent! I been trying to find someone that sold it in the states and had it in stock. ekm said they had it, so I bought it there.

Bluetooth Drivers

Alrightee... I guess few have had the same problem as I have... yet...
So I will just go ahead and let the world know an alternative to Sony's
BlueTooth drivers (which US owners can not get through the net). This
site will show you how to install BT drivers for just about any machine
including desktops and notebooks. It uses the WIDCOMM drivers and
I *think* IBM BT management software. It works like a charm!!

Enjoy!
