f1meteor, you're talking about the ferrari 3000, the predecessor of the 3200, and that uses a completely different mobo than the 3200, as it is an athlon xp system while the 3200 is A64. so therefore my guess is no you can't switch video cards. of course, you can try....

Quick Question:

Can the slot-loading drive on the Ferrari 3200 handle mini CD-Rs (80mm round) ???
snorre, Acer tech support says it's not a "known issue," and pointed me to this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q329284

Could be one of several things, none of which look good. I may have to send this puppy back to the garage for a check up. I'll talk to Acer technical support today or tomorrow by phone to see what they say.

Bootz: Check your memory with Memtest86+ and you'll know for sure. I've seen the exact same error on several computers with bad memory.

[quote=Bootz]Anyone else having this problem with their Ferrari? This is about the fifth or sixth time I've gotten this screen in barely two weeks of use. The computer is frozen at this point and you have to use the power button to power down and restart.

No hardware or software has been added to the system. I think I did run the Network setup Wizard, but that's it. I've also done a System Restore and I still get this screen with the following message:

bootz I am having the exact same problem with my 3200. Heard a loud clicking sound while playing a track in windows media player and the comp just bluescreened. Damn i just got it yesterday, I think this one might be going back

Intended Ferrari 3200 Purchase

Hello Snorre. I was wondering exactly where and for how much you purchased your Ferrari 3200? Because I'm planning to have my laptop configured the same as yours in terms of RAM and HD. By the way does the change from the standard HD to the 60GB 7200RPM HD make a huge difference? Also u know the AMD 'Lancaster' processor (with 1mb L2 cache), would I be able to upgrade to it when its released?

Thanks in advance!

No, it seems like it can't:

Note: 3 inch CDs play in tray drives, and should not be inserted into the slot-type drives like some lap tops and older iMacs have.

Cool I doubt it will help you much, but I bought everything from the Norwegian online retailer Netshop.no for about 19000 NOK + VAT.

I think so, as boot up and loading apps/games are much faster with the 7200RPM HDD. See also these benchmark results I did for comparison:

Toshiba MK-8025GAS 80GB 4200RPM HDD (the stock drive):

HD Tach 3.0.1.0:
Burst speed: 57.6 MB/s
Random access: 19.5 ms
CPU utilization: 2 %
Average read: 23.6 MB/s

Hitachi 7K60 60GB 7200RPM HDD (my upgrade drive):

HD Tach 3.0.1.0:
Burst speed: 96.6 MB/s
Random access: 14.8 ms
CPU utilization: 2 %
Average read: 31.0 MB/s

I really hope it's compatible as I'd love to upgrade when that's available, but I don't know for sure. All I know about this is that it's supposed to be compatible with the upcoming 90nm 'Oakville' processors.

When installing the new HD and after running the recovery cd, does it still have the 2nd partition or is that gonne?

Aloha,

I just ordered my Acer Ferrari 3200 from newegg.com for $1945 USD. I had to sell my powerbook in order to run some windows applications, and was just about to buy a sony before coming to these forums. I thought i was a computer expert (i have been looking for a month or two now) and now realize i am a complete newb. I have a couple questions that i hope you kind folks could answer for me.

Actually my first question is about 10 questions. My notebook is going to be left stock for now, and i would like to optimize it right when i take it out of the box. From what i understand, this consists of 1:converting to NTFS, 2:getting omega drivers? 3changing the BIOS so that the wireless isnt auto on 4:i remember snorre mentioning optimizing the battery in one of his posts.

Could somebody please tell me what the advantages are of going throught the trouble to convert to ntfs?

Why do i need omega drivers?

Snorre what did you do to optimize your battery?

Also, does it take memory stick pro or just regular memory stick?

Aloha

Speedotite:
1) i've never had to reformat or convert my computer to ntfs, but from what i've heard, it is supposedly much more efficient/faster than FAT32 since it arranges data more effieciently or something along those lines, i'm not quite sure exactly, nor do i know what the DOS command is to reformat. just make sure you do it.
2) this is the easiest question. You dont really need Omega drivers, but it's highly recommended that you get them because the standard ATI Catalyst drivers sometimes have compatibility problems with the mobile chipsets whereas the Omegas usually dont, the Omegas are optimized/tweaked drivers that will usually make your system run a bit faster/better than it did before (i know from experience) and they include overclocking tools with the drivers if you ever decide to overclock your card. they can be found at omegacorner.com.
3)i have no clue on how to do this as i have never had a lappy before.
4)i believe memorystick regular and pro use the same slot, so u should be fine on that one.

Good luck and congratulations on your new lappy!
from what i heard, FAT32 do not handle files bigger than 4gb, so if u need to back up your dvd into you HD, u need NTFS,
post #536 of 1272
really? i have to make a note of that...

Hey snorre,
How do you get your Lan and Modem working after swaping your HD? The drivers provided to me on Acer's website isnt working. Also, when I install launch manager from acer's website, my wireless does not work, when I push the "radio on" button it says "No Device". I have to uninstall it to get my wireless working again. Please help =)

I tried to upgrade the memory to 1G ddr400.There's one module on the back and I learned from this thread that the other one is under the keyboard.I will upgrade to 1G by using 2*512MB.Hence,I found it difficult to install the second one.Anyone has done that before?Any suggestions?Should I open to back of the Ferrari? Thanks!

When you buy the Ferrari 3200 you get some cd's included. One of them contains the drivers you need for your hardware. I'm now at my work and can not tell you exactly which cd it is at the moment. Just browse the cd's and you will find it. It is just cd 1 of 1. Good luck.
