initial charge is better when its 8-10 hours so it wont screw your battery like the old nickel cadmium.

Also, when I install launch manager from acer's website, my wireless does not work, when I push the "radio on" button it says "No Device". I have to uninstall it to get my wireless working again. Please help =)
Use the system CD and search for the drivers from the hardware manager. It will find the correct drivers and install them.

Just got off the phone with Acer tech support. As soon as heard about the "Machine Check Exception" error message I was getting, he said it was a hardware problem and to send it back. They're promising to have it back in five days. Guess we'll see.

Once the light is green the battery isn't taking any more charge. Go ahead and use it, but I recommend using it until it's depleted and charging it again. If you do, there is a good chance it will accept more charget han its designed capacity and you'll have a little more more power.

Don't be surprised if they can't fix it and you need a new unit. Don't let them screw you over. If they can't have a perfect machine to you next time, demand a new unit. My first unit had freezing issues that were never fixed after numerous attempts. My new unit has been perfect.

the heat on the bottom of the lappie freaked me out after a couple hours of hard work(music editing), it is even worse than the heat on the palm area, especially on the ram area, it's burning~ i think i really need one of those fan dock...

They tried that one out on me, a new machine straight out of the box! Machine exception after machine exception, totally unusable. Phoned there so called technical support and the guy was real piece of work. He tried to blame everything from windows to overclocking to unofficial peripherals. I then contacted the retailer and they got Acer to phone me. They informed me that they could not replace my laptop without first going through the Acer dead on arrival procedure 48 hour pick up if they cannot repair it within a further 72 hours you get a replacement. I told them that was not acceptable for a day old laptop and I was going to freeze the payment. That seemed to get through to them and I am now waiting for my replacement. Hopefully it is one of the good ones. Ferrari 3200 is right don’t let Acer screw you.

Conditioning the battery

I did more or less what the manual instructs you to do (see pp. 33-35 in the printed User's Guide for more information):

1. Insert the new battery without turning on the notebook
2. Connect the AC adapter and let it fully charge the battery (until the battery light turns green)
3. Disconnect the AC adapter
4. Turn on the notebook and let it run on battery power
5. Fully deplete the battery (until the notebook turns off)
6. Reconnect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery

Repeat these steps until the battery has been charged and discharged at least 3-4 times. If you want to use AC power, remove the battery pack after it is fully charged since excessive recharging decreases the battery life.

To monitor your battery condition I recommend BatteryMon that you can get from here (trial version):
http://www.passmark.com/products/batmon.htm

Or Battery Monitor.NET that you can get from here (free):
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.ph...entry584484786

Battery Eater Pro is also a nice tool you can use to benchmark the battery life as you condition your new battery, download it from here:

You'll find the LAN & Modem drivers on the System CD in the Drivers\WinXP folder.

Acer missed out on a nice opportunity here as far as I'm concerned. Yes, the Ferrari-styled mouse is nice, but why the heck wasn't it a wireless one, given that the 3200 contains Bluetooth?

As for the heat issue, I'm typing this on an Acer TravelMate 800LCi and I just noticed that there's no heat at all on the left palm rest. This is a 1.3GHz Intel with 40GB HD.

Anyway, Fed-Ex is supposed to pick the 3200 up after 1pm Monday. I'll keep you informed of developments, which I hope there are.

Good luck with your ferrari, I hope they can fix it. Always annoying if the system is not working.

This is my first post, and it will be my first laptop purchase. The Ferrari is in the top 3 of my choices along with Sager 4790 and Hypersonic AX7. Who is the best reseller of the Ferrari offering the best warranty?
Thanks
i would suggest either newegg.com or the host of these forums, pctorque.com. i believe all of the warranty things are handled directly with acer no matter what, but newegg is a few bucks cheaper while pctorque may offer returns on it while i dont think newegg does. good luck on your searching!

and PS: the AX7 is the same thing as the Sager 4750, you might want to go with that if you want to save a few bucks and a few weeks of wait time.

Thanks for the reply

Ive been watching it on Newegg for the past few weeks, its gone from $2009.00 down to $1945.00... I think I'll wait a few more weeks.

it has gone down to $1945. which is a pretty good deal IMO.
