I have a winxp cd with sp2 slipstreamed in that I am about to install. This will be my third clean install, but the first one with the slipstream.

Do you have any particular order in which I should apply all the drivers and patches? (eg. Winxp updates>4in1>AMD Processor Driver>Omegas, etc?)

Thanks

A good thread about your question.

Or here is the content:

Disable any legacy ports (If any) that you will not be using via the BIOS.

Install Windows.

Install Windows 2000 Service Pack 4/WindowsXP Service Pack 2

Go to WindowsUpdate and update everything. (Install network card drivers here if necessary) Repeat process until there are no updates left.

Install the latest version of DirectX, if it is not available through WindowsUpdate. Latest is DirectX 9.0c, available HERE.

Install the latest Via Hyperion 4in1 driver. (These are the Via motherboard chipset and ATA drivers) Latest is Hyperion 4in1 4.51 If you have an AMD64 system and are running Windows XP 64, you need the Hyperion Pro 0.96P2

Install the latest video drivers.

Install latest network card drivers if you have not done so in step

Install latest sound card drivers.

Add other devices one by one, and install their latest drivers, e.g. joystick, graphics tablet, et cetera.

Install applications.

Confirm the system is working and then tweak as required.

I just did a squeeky clean install and I get the exact same scores. The CPU score seems to be on par with all of yours, byt my GFX scores are WAY below yall's. I', going to call Acer in a few minutes and get an RMA. What a pain in the ass! I am now going to have to take out all my damn upgrades! ARGHHHH! This freaking figures.

Didn't you just disable the trackpad with <Fn>+<F7> ???

Ferrari 3400 manual released

Hey guys looks like ferrari 3400 model is about to be launched. I was browsing their support site and came across the 3400 manual here

http://csd.acer.com.tw/acer/URMUL1.N...=50&Expand=5#5

Looks exactly the same as 3200 except with a port replicator at the back.

No specific AMD CPU speed was mentioned, but graphics are the same ATi 9700 with 128MB and the everything looks the same.

Damn, I only got mine not so long ago...

Ferrari 3400 will be here in Oct

just to update, Ferrari 3400 is supposed to be released on Oct 8th according to this Japan site

http://www.itmedia.co.jp/pcupdate/ar...7/news016.html

So it is true.

If you scroll down on that link, it shows that the 3400 comes with an Athlon 64 3000+.

Giving Up

Well I have finally given up on the Ferrari.

I'm disheartened by all the time and effort I have had to put into the Ferrari with nothing but headaches. I was able to get a full RMA and I am going to spend the extra few bucks and get an 8006LMI. I think the performance is goign to be relatively equal plus I get the DVI output which is nice. Hopefully the 8006LMI won't get as unbelieveable hot like the Ferrari does either.

I wanted to say that I truely appreciate everyone's help trying to help me figure out what the issue was.

I've ordered a new notebook. Not an Acer Ferrari 3200 this time, but a Jewel JaDe 8080 (= Compal CL56) (1.7 Dothan, 60GB 7200rpm, DVD-RW, pixelwarranty) for € 1407,- (19% VAT included).

I've ordered it at www.computerland.nl (it's also a shop you can walk in ).

P.S. I liked the Acer Ferrari 3200, but I think the battery-life is a little bit too short.

FAT to NTFS

Hello there!
Here comes Xeno with his boring questions that should not be!

Remember my problem with the overheating external surface over the HD: it is still there.

Now I have another one, even simpler:
The command "convert c: /fs:ntfs" does not work.
The machine requests a "volume label" that I do not know.
Anyone know the complete command for XP Pro +SP2?
Thanks for your help,
X.
volume label = the name of the C drive

On an original Acer install the name of the drive c:\ is Acer and for d:\ is Acerdata.

otherwise open a CMD prompt and type DIR, the label is shown at the end of the second line.

I'm afraid you'll be dissapointed there since it's actually hotter than the Ferrari 3200. I'd recommend that you RMA the Ferrari and get a new one that works properly instead. It seems you unfortuantely got a monday model...

Damn, wouldn't that just be my luck? I wonder how the performance compares to the 3200 in all things (games, office, etc). I wonder about the overclocking potential also.

The Ferrari 3200 performs better than the Travelmate 8006LMi on average, and is especially faster on games. The only things you can tweak on the 8006 is the GPU/VRAM and RAM timings, no overclocking of CPU or memory is possible as of yet. I'm sure Acer will help you get a proper Ferrari 3200, and hopefully you'll be happy then
post #718 of 1272
Judging from this, I'm assuming that you can stick the new Athlon 3000+ in the Ferrari 3200.

I just ordered a 3200 and it should be here in a few days. I was speaking with the shop and they told me that to upgrade my ram to 1 gig would cost about 400 bucks CDN. Does anyone know what ram works well in the Ferrari and where to get some in Canada?

Hopefully for alot less then $400 bones.

thanks

I just recieved my Ferrari 3200 and it recognizes the processor as a 1.5ghz????? Whats up with that.. Also could someone like possibly post a good tweak guide here so you dont have to browse through 40 some pages in this thread?
