I suggest that you run Memtest86+:

EOL for AMD Athlon XP?

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20041207-4438.html

On the other hand, you can now get one for less than $200.

gto memtest, ran it, for 3-4 hours with no errors then ran with probing and it found 10 errors. sent the machine into Acer and they replaced the memory modules. memtest has not detected any errors now but BSOB still happens!! What else could be causing it? A loose chip/device perhaps? overheating (unlikely as it sometimes happens soo after cold booting) hmmmm..................

Ok, then your unit is most likely defective. I recommend that you call Acer support and request a new replacement unit.

Problems with graphics card

Hi, guys.

A very interesting thing just happened.

In this forum I found out that there had been new Omega drivers issued (4.12 Beta). Well, trying to get rid of all those blue screens and other nasty problems (I've written about them in earlier posts), I installed the new drivers. Then, I realised that I forgot to uninstall the former ones (I think it was 4.10 Beta). To do this, I uninstalled the new drivers, re-installed the new ones (to retrieve the uninstaller), then had to reboot my computer. After rebooting my computer crashed... Strange, isn't it? For almost a month everything went perfectly fine with the old drivers, and now, just after re-installing them, it crashed...

I restored my computer to the state without any graphics drivers, cleaned the registry and installed the new 4.12 Beta drivers once again. And, guess what - my computer crashed again after rebooting... Now,

CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY FERRARI???

Thanks a lot, guys. For any help and for this thread, and for this forum in general.

Don't worry, Ferrari is still one of the best laptops available.

Cheers,
Algirdas

P.S. Is there any way to use the memtest program without having it to write to any portable media? Right now, I don't have anything to write to, and would like to test my memory...

nothing is actually wrong with the ferrari it says BETA means that its still on progress of a better drivers to be developed and confirmed but i rather just stay with the current ati drivers since they are actually much much better than user configured drivers

Well, I really doubt if the original drivers are better: once installed, my computer crashed and I could not even restore it.. Had to format everything... So, I prefer the, although Beta, but Omega drivers.

How come you guys limit yourself to only 2 sets of drivers. Quite frankly, I prefer the dna drivers over any of the alternatives. You can download them off of ww.dna-drivers.nl and they are small in size so there is no reason not to try them. Here is a good link to a review http://www.dna-drivers.nl/viewtopic.php?t=3066
which may be a little overexaggerated, but is informing as well.

Also, for the more curious, you can download other types of drivers/apps/bios for ati and nvidia cards off of http://www.mvktech.net/.

in my opinion the stock drivers are the best, i have yet to have any errors and I am running really good performance... not much less than any of u guys, only about 500 3dmarks in 2001SE slower than the fastest one ive seen here, of course, im on a ferrari 3400... and by the way, i havnt overclocked yet...

Ok, guys, I've just installed the DNA-drivers v.3.4.4.11 and my FERRARI "hung" once again showing nothning except a milk-colored blank screen.

Is that already a complete proof that something is wrong with my unit? Or do you want me to try something more?

Run a complete test with Memtest86+ that you can find here:

I've just finished running the memtest86+ v.1.40: 6 passes, 0 errors. Any clue what might be the problem?

Snorre, it seems my computer is a small quizz for you, huh?

Thanks for help, dudes.

Yes, then the problem is probably software and not hardware related I think. Try a clean install and see if the problems goes away, then try updating the drivers one at a time starting with the chipset & cpu drivers.

Ok, thanks, man. I'll try to do that as soon as I have some free time (definitely not now, during the final exams at university!!! ). I'll keep you updated with newest stories from my cyber-car.

Had same problem

My dad somehow did that exact same thing on an old compaq we had well installing win 98, its definatly a driver issue, but it fixed itself when he rebooted and restarted the install...
Id say that you should eather A) reformat
B) use the Win XP GOback
or C) send it back to acer...

wouldnt recomend C
