hypersonic or powernotebooks.com for CL56

I have brought it down to these two vendors to buy a CL56 from but the two offer different perks. For similar prices I can get a CX5 from hypersonic with one of those slick paint jobs and a no-dead pixel gurantee (+ $50) but with only a dothan 1.7 or from powernotebooks.com I can get a dothan 2.0. All the other specs are the same (60gig 7200 rpm hard drive, 802.11 g, 4xDVD burner, no operating system, 1 gig DDR333, etc). For a gamer which would you get, is it worth giving up the aesthetic apeal of the hypersonic for a faster CPU? Thanks for any help

As far as "should I get a faster system that costs less or a slightly slower one that looks nicer", that is a totally up to you. I guess you're getting the better 'value' with powernotebooks, as far as preformace. I ordered mine from Hypersonic though. I liked the looks as well, plus the no dead pixel policy was worth the extra for me. I just decided I'd spend a little extra money to get the specs I wanted + the looks + other thing (no dead pixel, etc). Either way you'll be doing good I think.

hardcore gamer? if so, no thought needed, powernotebooks 2.0 ghz dothan.

better yet get the 1.7 dothan at a far far reduced price (not much diff game performance)

unless you're one of those gamers who goes to LANs just to show off his pretty case mod / paint job & sits in the corner to drink soda all day.

300 extra MHz wont make much of a difference. In the case of the P-M it is about 450 mhz, of a differen,ce which still isnt much. Most games today are hindered by the gpu, and not the processor. Therefore, I would lean more towards the paint job (which is great from HS), if you really want to spend that money.

From what I've read (and been told) on these forums: For a gamer, the bottleneck is currently the GPU. So a jump from 1.7 to 2.0 isn;t going to make much of a difference in terms of game performance. It might load a bit faster, but for in game performance the differance is going to be negligable. For me, I think I'm going for a 1.7 from Hypersonic, both for the no dead pixel insurance, and the burn in. I can't wait to get my payceck so I can join the CL56 club!!!

yeah thats what I reasoned aswell. At that price I figured, why not get a slick paintjob to go with a pretty slick machine. I know that functionally the paint does nothing, but then again how much does that extra 0.3GHz do either. I plan to play most FPS games such as Far Cry, but since a 1.7 GHz Dothan is a pretty highend performer I shouldn't be sacrificing too much performance. I am entering a co-op program in university and over my 5 years I should earn nearly $50,000 Canadian; so I might buy a pimped out desktop in a few years. That was a factor I took into acount. So right now it looks like hypersonic may have stolen the lead; but since I am buying in July who knows. Just wanted to be informed, thanks.
