Beauty or Beast?

Catchy title no? (little queer, perphaps?). Anyhow lets say for a moment that my cheapness is overcome by my love of technology and I consider getting aSager 8790(Beast) with a 3.4 P4 (not EE), 1 gig ram, 2 X 60 gig 7200 rpm - raid 0 - hard drives, tv tuner, 802.11g wireless ... etc, and a sweet 17" screen. Would the $500 extra be worth it; instead of getting a fully loaded CL56(Beauty). I am a gaming fan and would also like to use my laptop as a Personal Video Recorder (since with a slick 17" screen watching tv will be enjoyable. What are your recomendations? I would like battery life, but it is not my principal concern. My main concern is that I get the most gaming bang for a moderate amount of buck. Thanks.

If you want pure bang for buck, check out the sager 5690. The main question you should ask is what you're going to be using it for. Do you just want a desktop replacement you can take with you if you want? Or do you want a truly mobile laptop that also has great performance. For me, I wanted to be mobile (college student and go to school on the other coast, so lots of traveling) so I'm going for the CL56. Good luck.

i would say the cl56, because slim and good battery is nice even if not neccasery, lugging a sager of that caliber is a tad tough but busting one out in a library or starbucks with its 17inch screen is priceless, watch the thinkpad guys **** there pants!

If you want to be able to game away from a power outlet, then get the cl56. If you are going to be plugged into a wall the whole time, then the Sager is for you =)

It's hard to say because it is so much just a personal choice. I've had TWO 8790's and I sent them back and now I am getting a CL56. The 8790 setup is very similar to what I had. Although now by going witht he CL56, I will lose some computing power, I think the tradeoff is worth it, as now I'll have a quieter, lighter, slimmer, and longer lasting (battery life) notebook. To me, the 8790 was just a bit too much for a laptop. but that is just my opinion. I'd say give the CL56 a try, gaming on it looks pretty promising.
