Hello :-)
I am currently a ThinkPad user and am accustomed to using a trackpoint.
Actually I got so much used to the trackpoint that I prefer it much more than any mouse.
Especially in 3D Gaming. The reasons are:
1. Your hand using the trackpoint is on the keyboard at the same time, so you are able to push any button on the right side of the keyboard without problems simultaneoulsy. So if you want to press Enter you don't have to jump with the other hand or leave your pointing device.
2. You don't have to do repeated movement, like when you reach the end of your mouse pad, shifting the mouse again to continue the same movement.
If you do a 90 degrees turn and realize the other direction would be better you can without a problem continue to do a 270 degrees turn faster by just pushing harder.
3. Of course compared to a mouse you can play on a couch or in bed :-)
My problem is that imo IBM machines are overpriced (at least here in Germany). I don't really see the reason to pay the double price to an Acer Laptop just because the keyboard and chassis are better.
And concerning quality... hmmm well.. I have a 570 and A31 and both had to be repaired at least once and my colleagues also very often had problems with their thinkpads. So I guess you're not completely safe with any laptop.
So I was wondering which other manufacturers produce laptops with TrackPoints or if I get used to using a TouchPad if I can use it the same or better than a mouse as well. Actually I never liked TouchPads but I never really tried to get accustomed to them anyway.
I just don't want to be forced to connect an extra mouse to my next laptop.
