Light Up Your Keyboard

To light up a DELL laptops keyboard, is there any way to do it?, Don't say popping off all they keys cause that's rediculas and stupid, and almost asking to have something broken.

Sorry, but if you mean lighted from behind that would be the only way to go. You would have to pop 'em up and attach quite a few small LED's (chip LEDs perhaps) in there to get an evenly lighted keyboard, and do a fair bit of wiring too. It is metal backed so its not as if you could just put LED's straight under that... you would have to remove the keys. It is fairly infeasible but not impossible....

Seeing as how the key are opaque not translucent I'm sure you could light up under the keys so the space between them lights up, but I don't think it would facilitate easier reading of the keys in the dark.

That was what I was getting at too. It wouldn't have quite the same effect as a translucent one though would it...

if you could rig up some system of tiny plastic pipes, it could travel off 1 LED like fiber optics. The light would travel down the plastic tubing and to each key. I believe Apple's powerbooks have backlit keyboards. They look quite nice.

You would have to get a specific type of tubing or strong LED... correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not a whiz with this stuff, I'm just a bean counter), but a simple LED will not provide enough or the right type of light to tavel like that....

Do a search for "white light ibook" in the forums for a cheap, compact fiber optic/LED solution. There are DIY links, including online stores where you can purchase all the components. It requires a bit of electonics skill and patience, but it doesn't look like too daunting a task.
