ATi Catalyst 4.6 Released!

Thread Starter
ATi has releasedt the Catalyst 4.6 drivers. Among the updates is a change to the Pixel Shader 2.0 compiler, which results in performance gains in some PS 2.0 applications.

Hopefully the Omega Drivers will be available soon.

Yay Halo might actually look good now...
And after getting it at Circuit City for $10, I'll feel good about it, too!

You can use these 4.6 on your 8790 notebook -install them manual or wait for Omega's.

You should be able to use mobility modder as well to have them work. www.driverheaven.net

If you don't mind my asking...how do you install them manually? I went through the advanced/properties settings for the adapter, clicking to get to the update driver button, and then navigated ("Have Disk" etc.) to the place where I extracted ATI's files...but which "*.inf" file do I select? And will this install the control panel as well?

Thanks!

i only selected the 2kxp folder ... and it seems to pick the c2xxxx.inf

wow .... this new driver is much better for both desktop and laptop.

before: 3634
after: 3744

thank you venom, 4speed, and especially crjpilot ...

Nice.. I will have to download this one, to keep my rank

Wow I got 4,009 without overclocking.

>edit: The o/c score is 4297, but since thats only 70 some points higher than my record, I won't bother publishing it on orb

congratulation!

it seems that the 5690 is faster than the 8790
post #11 of 32
Where do I get these?
So, someone HAS installed these on an 8790 and is using them successfully? It's not crystal clear from the contents of the thread here...

And if so, I still wonder, after navigating to the 2kxp folder and having it select the C2_15958.inf file, exactly which model you selected out of the long list?

Sorry, I'm usually not so hesitant to try this kind of thing, but I am testing out my THREE DAY OLD 8790 , which is a brick but has ROCKED so far!! I'd hate to er...break something.

Thanks everyone!

To install them manually, run the modding software. Then go into the folders under the ati modded thing and seperately run the different setups in the various folders, not the one in the main folder. That always worked for me!
Trying to re-get 3Dmark03 .. Then I'll run my 8790 through the paces...

I'm also working on a project to backlight my 8790's keyboard / Speakers .... I'll post a thread on that soon....

monghidi,

i installed the new driver to the 8790.

Can anyone confirm Windows Media player isnt working with this driver?
Can't confirm...just installed the 4.6 drivers and using Windows Media Player right now (Sparta's new CD is pretty good).
I can confirm that not only does Windows Media Player not work, all other video applications totally cause my 5690 to lock up. Only way around it is a manual cold reboot by holding down the power button. Very depressing. :-(

Yea it seems overlay doesn't work properly. I switched back to latest Omega and it works fine.
yup .. it seems that the new driver is for desktop not for mobile.
it runs great on my desktop.
it runs dvd very badly on 8790 even it scores higher on 3dmark03.
i uninstalled it and reinstalled the original driver.
at least there is a new hydravision
