ATi Catalyst 4.6 Released! - Page 2

Here may be a fix...uninstall the ATI control panel. I was in fact having problems with video through the Windows Media Player. I uninstalled the ATI control panel, and the choppy playback was resolved. Hope this helps.

I figure I'll just ask here... I just got my 8790 two days ago and noticed that the driver version of my 9700 is totally different from what the catalyst drivers would make it. Can I use the catalyst drivers with my Mobile 9700 or do I have to strictly use the mobile drivers?

You can use all the new drivers for the 8790, but in order to do so you'll either have to get modded versions (such as the Omega drivers), use legitimate ones and a mod tool like DH Mobility Modder to install them, or just install them manually yourself.

I see. So which route is the easiest and most effective?

The easiest way is by far using the Omega's, and that's likewise usually the best option since they're tweaked to run graphical games and apps really well. They also come with some nice overclocking tools, incase you want to use them. The downside to that is that it usually take them a week or two to get their versions released after a new catalyst comes out, so you have to wait a bit.

DH Mod works nice too, in that it will alter the files to run for you, so you can get the new cats right off the bat. They don't have any of the nice tweaks or bonuses though.

Self install is probably the most aggrivating, since you have to do it all yourself, and if you don't know what you're doing, you can screw it up farily well.

I'd just wait for the Omegas, if I were you. Go ahead and go get the ones that are currently out (the Cat 4.5s) and use them until the new ones come out.

Ok...my bad, Omegacorner just shut down their site to put up a new one. Driverheaven.net just confirmed it. Don't know when Omegacorner will be up though.

Omegas new site is open with the new drivers based on Cat 4.6. The notes say that they work even better with laptops now.

Go get em - http://www.omegadrivers.net/

...installed 'em...

So far so good...

Just one thing though... ATI Tool didn't work for me after this install... I hunted around a bit and found out that changing the capital letters in the atitool.sys filename to all lower case is a solution. I did that and I'm back in bidnits!
