infrared is not even worth using, just use a USB drive, a flash card, or a floppy... infrared is maybe good for transferring text files, its VERY slow with files over 1mb... trust me..

I just use windows. When another PC come in range, it will give you the option to connect to it. Once you do, you can easily just use windows to transfer the files (I believe their computer shows up as a 'drive', but I forget since itt has been awhile since I've last used it). Eithor way, you dont need extra software.

And yes, it is a pain and not really worth it. It's slow, and the computers have to be ligned up for the connection to remain.

Good enough to sync my mobile phone with the notebook. No software needed but the driver for the Infrared port should be installed.

infrared is just too slow to use with anything else except small devices, like cell phones. what would be nice to see is a regular remote control being used to control your pc.

These Toshiba Satellite 5205 series have a remote control stored in the Style Bay to control the notebook functions. That infrared port doubles as the IR receiver...

and i would be able to use the remote and perform diff functions by downloading this applicatoin???
Yeah you can take any remote and train uICE to remember each button press.

Then map buttons to different commands, even use the mouse with a remote, but it's kind of hard to move around that way.
I installed uICE but i cant seem to make it work with my infrared port. does anyone know how to set it up?
You have to setup what ir device you got first, under "general config"
Not sure what you got but my sager's is coupled with the tv card.

Then go to "hardware setup" and you have to go through and train uICE by pressing every button on your remote (slowly)

Then in "Actions" you can setup commands you want buttons to do.

General Config asks for a COM port, and I dont know what COM port my infrared adapter is on.

I would just point the remote you want to use at the notebook and try different configs.

I found that it was better to use the remote from a foot or two away, and not try to line up the ir ports.

did anyone use the Uice software with a P-25 laptop ? Because I cant get it to work.
