Ah I get your point. Yea I definitely think ppl are exaggerating about the screen. I will do 3dmark03 again later and check the cpu score, cuz i didnt save it the first time.

hey did u test if u have any dead or stuck pixels yet?

Nope the screen is perfect. There are no stuck or dead pixels. I just reran 3DMark03 with clocks of 481 core and 250 memory and scored 3457. I want to note that at these clocks, it was still very very stable and no artifacts whatsoever. I believe I can push it even more....

I submitted my score into the orb. By the way, my CPU score was 538, and it shows that my CPU ran at 800mhz on the orb. Hmmm...

O/C'ed 3DMark03 score
were u plugged in? put always on or desktop power setting to keep ur cpu at full throttle

this happened to me a few times when submitting my score and i got 600mhz coz i waited a few minutes after the test was done so by then my cpu was scaled down and i submitted the info

Ahhh, I see. Yea the CPU must've scaled down when I submitted my scores. Anyway, I ran 3DMark03 again at 490/260 and got 3562 with a CPU score of 536. It ran fine without stability issues or artifacts here. I think I may push it up slightly later.

rincewind, I'm using the default ATI drivers that came with my notebook. Which ones are you using? What ones do you recommend?

i find omegadrivers are slightly better when it comes to gaming optimizations

they are based off the official ati catalsysts but tweaked a bit

i think they are the best

Soy,

The screen on the Ferrari 3200 is the LG SXGA+ screen which is exactly the same as the travelmate SXGA+ screens.

I am a bit suprised at the score for the 3dmark03 CPU I thought it would easily outperform the 2.0ghz dothan processor (Scored 631).
what did the 2.0 dothan get in aquamark cpu score?

did u put on arctic silver 5 yet? did it stop the fan from enabling every 15 mins
post #29 of 59
Rince,

The 2.0ghz Dothan got 9706 CPU score in Aquamark.

I did put Arctic silver 5 on the cpu hasnt made an awful lot of difference as of yet i am told it improves over several days but really has only made 1c of temp difference which is not really enough to justify doing it in the first place.

It looks like the cool down when the fan kicks in is a bit quicker but i havent got figures to back that claim up.
wow thats 1700 over my cpu score w/ 1.7 banias

what that translates to in real time performance i donno!
To be honest looking at the performance figures and battery life..

The future is Dothan. Imagine the performance when the 2.4ghz hits the streets....
Soyboy how loud is the fan under general use? How often does it kick in? What about under heavy use?

I think a 2.0ghz version of the mobile amd64 would be comparable to a 2.0ghz dothan pentium m. the fan kicks in every 15 mins or so, and it is fairly quiet imo. I really like this machine, especially the build quality, which is why i'm not bothered by the rather low cpu scores.
soy pay no attention to synthetic benchmark scores

the differences in those scores equate to .511111111111111111111111111 sec difference in actual real performance and u wont realistically be able to tell the difference

the ferrari 3200 is a great notebook... if i were to buy my CL56 with red auto paint like that it would be around 2000 or more too...

what were talkin about with those scores is merely from a computer enthusiasts view
post #35 of 59
ya rince but your battery life is mucho bettah
post #36 of 59
indeed
i dunno for me this puts the cl56 ahead of the ferrari cause i use my comp more than i look at the back of it
post #38 of 59
The Ferrari still has a 64bit future. Though only MS knows when that time will be. Still, for me i like the 'future proof' aspect of it.
true, that aspect remains to be seen unfortunately

i think the reason why i didnt hold out for an a64 notebook with 9700 is coz i saw no advantages of having one 'right now' and by the time its full blown and taken advantage of... i'd be already looking for another laptop

i am a previous owner of the mitac8335, which is also known as the AX6, voodoo m:855, etc... its an athlon64 notebook with 9600 gpu... returned it, just didnt feel i needed it
