while i do not know how the 7500 mobility would perform for those games u mentioned... i do know that it is directx 8 compliant, its old, but not that old!

i was never really a big fan of ati until they started beating nvidia

i used to use the voodoo2 3dfx until they stopped making cards and nvidia bought them out

i think after that my next card was a geforce2 then a geforce4 4200ti before switching to ati 9800 pro and ati 9700 mobility

-------

the bottomline with xga is that new notebooks from here on out will not have a decent sized lcd that utilizes it... technology is always moving forward so what well see with lcd resolutions it that it will only get larger (smaller visually). its a shame reallly since i find that uxga is very teeny tiny and i cant imagine what anything larger than 1400 or 1600 would be like on a 15" screen

if the 2 hp comps have what u want (xga pentium m and 64mb 9600) y not get them? i typiclly tend to stay away from big brand name companies like dell/compaq/hp coz ive been buildin pcs forever and i feel like i just 'went with the bunch' if i got one.. while this not an issue for some and in most cases an only option for most people who do not want to do the research or take the time to find out what they want in a notebook, i'd have to say this may very well be your only option, even tho you did the research to find out exactly what you want

i do know that IBMS are built to last and i dont think you'll find any cheapness about it (like the dells) if u went with one.. as firefirewire... whats wrong with a pcmcia firewire? its still in ur notebook and not blantly sticking out

The 7500 is not terrible. I had one on a VPR Matrix notebook and I used to play Battefield 1942 and Unreal Tournament 2003 on it with no problem.

Also, the go5200 is MUCH worse than the ATI 9200. Not really equivalent at all.

"In 3dmark 2001 the Geforce FX 5200 Go scored 6579 marks while Radeon 9200M scored 7534, almost a thousand more. In "Nvidia do not recommend" 3dmark03, Geforce FX 5200 GO got 871 while Radeon 9200M managed 1222 marks. In UT 2003 Asbestos the Geforce FX 5200 Go you will get about 62 FPS while Radeon 9200M will get you about 87 FPS. "

it was designed to be the 9200s equiv... and ati is still better

but its not that far behind... and its better than a ati 7500

it will be perfectly for for links2004 and tigerwoods golf
its what i'd consider a light gaming graphics card

exhaust port is on the right side, but positioned in the far back so it wont blow hot air in your mouse hand. look at that firewire port too!

the chassis is a nice sexy silver color ...

Memory 256MB PC2700 DDR Memory (expandable to 2048MB)
Video Controller NVIDIA Geforce FX Go5200 64mb

thread jackers!, anyway i installed, mafia, rainbow 6 three, WCIII, Delta forceblack hawk down. They all run really well, i didnt think a 15.4 inchscreen was this big. it is bright and the viewing anglesseem limitless. Ido havea problem though, i am using a copied version of windows andit seems to freeze up on random. Any ideas if getting a real version of windows would solve this problem? Battery life is good, i am getting windows xp pro corporate edition today and doing a clean instal, i have the driver cd and all those benching ati tool mobile mark apps on a cd soo it will only take a little while. Look for a full reiew this weekend.

All I know is that I had both (Go5200 on Toshiba P25 and 9200 on x1000) and games that played fine on the x1000 Centrino system were a slideshow on the Pentium 4 P25.

The Voodoo 3 was my favorite last 3dfx card (GLIDE!!!! Yeah!!!) and then nvidia sent them to their death.
I have read EVERYTHING that everyone has posted, today (and ever) and unfortunately there is no perfect fit, their never is with computer/electronics. I am trying to determine the best fit today.
I am just too aware of the history of 3D video cards to take giant steps backwards. Even though I don't game much (or hardly at all) the minute I buy a "lousy" video card I will want to run something that takes advantage of 3D. As I said, the last Dell had a 9200 card with 32MB, and I sure didn't want to step backward. Like I said, I am kindof "in between" XGA and SXGA+ and really hate to make a complete mistake!! Really.
So, right now, my obvious "mainstream" choices are:
1.) IBM T42 15" with Flexview SXGA+ (supposed to be like SONY screen but with no glare, who knows???)
2.) HP nc6000 64MB 9600 XGA
3.) HP nc8000 64MB or 128MB 9600 with XGA or SXGA+
other than that:
4.) ASUS M6N widescreen
5.) Mitac 8050 widescreen
But I really don't like the widescreens.
Yes, I know there is the Compal56, etc. but I want as PERFECT a screen as is available. I am just that picky.

ah... just saw battery life on at23 (3hrs)
nc6000 should blow that away

so. buy nc6000? why:

u will not be happy with widescreen (rules out your odm choices)
ibm costs too much, plus, your eyesight is bad. sxga+ on a 15'' is too small. plus, sxga screens all suck. right?
what do you need nc8000 over nc6000 for? doesn't it cost more?
Well, IBM does NOT cost too much.
Why...because I got a quote last week (good for 30 days) with the 15 percent DISCOVER card discount (now discontinued). My quote is for just over $2,100 + tax for the 2379-DXU (1.7 Dothan, 512MB, 60 gig 7200, wireless-G, 15 inch SXGA+ with Flexview, etc.) It is actually cheaper than the nc6000, which would be over $2,300 with the same features. However, if I get the nc6000, I already have a 60gig 7200 and memory, and I wouldn't get SXGA+ so it would be less, but...the IBM is still a heck of a deal to pass up. It is cheaper than the current "shareholder" price by a good bit.

maybe if you go direct thru HP, but i've seen the nc6000 for <$1500 at those specs.

edit: oh wow and if you already have HD and mem you can get it for DIRT cheap
