i need a cooler but there are so many to chose from so i thought i might ask you guys for advice... i found a few coolers, i'll post the links. please tell me which one is the most effective one. i don't care about noice, but i want to be able to keep my lappy cool since it's runnning 24/7... maybe if you have some temp. measurements with/without cooler, that would be useful.

here are some coolers i found:

if you know any more effective ones, please post a link.
thx again

Stigma,

There is "neat" little button on the top of the screen slightly offset to the right of center. It is named "SEARCH". Use this and you will find many answers provided by many people regarding your question.

Also, if you take a look at some of the posts in the "Review" forum, you will find even more info. Look in the last page of my review of the 2nd 8790. I wrote about a cooler that I purchased and now use.

I know this is OT but its really ironic to me that laptops should even require a cooler of any kind. I mean you pay big bucks for a computer that is portable and to make it "perform" better you have to get a cooler. Why cant the laptop companies that make these things do a better job of cooling them, its really baffles me you know?

I know what you're saying, but I don't think laptops require coolers. It's just geeks like me want the absolute best performance possible out of our beasts and won't settle for anything less. Saying that, I don't actually have a cooler yet, but I've been looking into it.

hehe, true... but then, a 8790 isnt really a laptop, unless you wanna get some serious burns. i don't even consider this "thing" a notebook for its faster than any other pc i've seen so far, and ive seen MANY PCs

Nate,

As mentioned already, these machines are not true laptops. Desktop processor, reasonably high end graphics card, fast hard disk... What you have is a desktop disguised in a laptop form factor. If you would like a laptop you don't feel compelled to cool there are a machines with 64MB graphics cards Centrino processors, etc... It really is a question of what you want - I for one am glad to have the choice!

Thanks all for the good tips on coolers, I have checked out all the links posted so far. Going to be mainly using my laptop in a big rig with plenty of power at hand, it is a 5690.
Would someone know what the biggest badest 120VAC cooler would be? Thanks for any leads.
Take care
Steve
