PCTorque: ETA/Info on the Acer 1800?

Hate to dig up an older thread (well, only 6 days), but this one sorta went by without an answer. Has anyone heard any info on this beast? The Aspire 1800 was officially announced the other day (as a very large notebook) along with a TravelMate, but there's been no real info officially released about them yet. I hate it when I can't find info on something.

With the Intel desktop PCI-Express chipsets being released (supposedly) in a few days, the large frame of the Aspire 1800 would be a nice home for it. It would be even better if that includes either MXM or AXIOM graphics modules, and SATA desktop drives.

I'm not look for a mobile laptop, I'm looking for a portable computer.

I still can't find any additional information beyond the initial announcements during Computex. If the 1712 had a uxga screen available, e.g. 1600x1200, I'd order it in a heartbeat. But, it doesn't and, just as you mentioned, there are some major laptop changes just around the corner. Stick the Sony A190 screen on this laptop and you've got one seriously high-end machine, although I really, really like that fact that the 1712 is NOT widescreen.

*cough* PCTorque? *cough*

The Aspire 1700/1710 series use desktop 17" LCD panels with the same great contrast ratios (450:1) and excellent response times (16ms) and increased brightness (4 tube lighting).

There is no UXGA desktop LCD widely used unless you are 20" or higher.

In any case, I believe the Aspire 1800 will use a 17" widescreen LCD. Most likely Acer will use the 17" WXGA panel since they do not offer UXGA panels on their notebooks. Hopefully, however, for those who like widescreen, this model will incorporate the same great features the 17xx line is using: desktop hard disk, desktop memory, etc. This will help separate it from the rest of the pack just like the Aspire 17xx series except it will be widescreen.

I would love to see another option for a laptop with a 3.5" HD. Hopefully this will be one.

Acer 1800 MIA

I did some digging around and can find no new info on the 1800. Most of the news states that the spec's will be unvailed at Computex (1-5 june) but then nothing???

I must admit i would like to know. Have been thinking about getting the 1714 but not for another month atleast. I would hate to miss on a new model if the specs and $ is right!

Has anyone seen anything new?
