Received my system last night 6/10. From the start of the order which was on 5/28 it took exactly 13 days. I'll be sure to put pics up this weekend and an in depth review later on.
Packaging was top notch. Outer box with the 4 foam corners holding the inner box. If it dropped 6 feet I believe the notebook would still survive. Top lid inside had my T-shirt, mouse, and binder. Notebook itself had its own protection for the keyboard and screen. No dead pixels- yay! As I was taking it out of the box, the size overwhelmed me. The notebook itself, battery, and AC adapter. You guys weren't kidding by the brick description. My past notebooks were the Sony 505s and IBM Thinkpad X20 so the AW is a big junp for me.
First thing I did was power it on and connect it to my XP network which was a breeze. Then went to windows update and downloaded the critical patches. I barely cracked open the manual and binder, leaving them aside. As XP was installing the patches I played around with the remote control which is one of the coolest things I've seen. Afterwards, I installed my applications (Office XP, Dreamweaver MX, Photoshop 7, McAffee VirusScan Enterprise, Spyware Blaster, etc.). After I installed Powerstrip, the tips screen keeps coming upon startup. I think someone here said that the registered version lets you disable this so I'll be calling AW today.
Now time for the DVD's. Popped in two movies and they played fine. When I tried playing LOTR The Two Towers, the drive noticed the disc half the time. The other half brought up a message saying Please Insert disc.
One minor annoyance I had was that I wish there was a CTRL key on the right side of the keyboard. Another one was I noticed that DVD's are recognized longer than regular CD's, maybe 20 seconds or so. And lastly adjusting to the size.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase of my new baby (although a little hefty), it will sure to bring me years of never ending bliss.
TP
