Thoughts on how the Area 51M will perform on Everquest 2?

I read an article a while back talking about Everquest 2 and that they programed it to be future compatible and that no system on the market today could run it at full visual effects without taking a big hit in performance. I was actually buying this notebook with this game in mind and was wondering how well you think it will perform?

Should preform as well as any high preformance laptop you can get currently. It will probalby run just fine just not with all the settings set all the way up on the game. If you are realy worried about preformace on this particular game you may just wan tto wait till the game is actually relased and see what exactly you are going to need to play it. If you can't wait the Alienware is about the best thing going as far as gaming laptops go but if you are truely worried about preformance you need to get a desktop not a laptop. These laptops are good don't get me wrong but a High Preformance desktop of the same price will take its lunch money every time.

Yes but by the time the game comes out, it will be available. Look at the specs for Longhorn:

4 - 6 ghz processor
2gb of RAM
1TB of HD space

if those are really the specs for Longhorn my respect for microsoft will drop from none to absolute hatred
not that i doubt what you say ewolff, iv even heard the same thing but if thats really true microsoft deserves to go completly broke

and die

Remember that Longhorn is not due until 2006 I believe, we should be hitting 4 gigs by the end of this year or early next. By 2006 that will be very average. Also, that can definitely change.

I've seen that info before, and keep in mind that is not actually what Mircosoft said. Read closely, it says "Microsoft is expected to recommend..."

Everquest 2 = Graphics Monstrosity!

One of the peeps involved with the Everquest Summit posted the following regarding EQ2:

Quote:
Eq2 looks fantastic graphics-wise. It was running on an alienware system with a p4 3.0, 2gb ram and one of the newer nvidia cards. In the options, you can either pick and chose from what looked like hundreds of different things. You can customize it to look as good (or bad) as you want it to. If you aren't quite that savvy though, theres also a box with ~6 settings that covered the whole spectrum pretty much. When switched to the highest settings, it would crawl. The system played it fairly well on "Balanced" though, which still looked amazing.
If that machine couldn't run it at max settings better than a crawl (I would assume less than 10FPS) then nothing built today will. Maybe the new ALX desktops from Alienware will, who knows though. Considering I played EQ for 3 and a half years at less than 20FPS .. most of the time at less than 10FPS, I don't expect EQ 2 to be any better, even on my new Sager 5690 (which currently runs EQ 1 from 40FPS - 140FPS at max settings (1600x1200).

They are also going to offer a "scaled down" version of Longhorn/2006 with a classic windows look to it. It will run on a non 3D graphics card, less processor and memory.

That was great information Melodis. It is nice to know that it has already been run on an alienware system and talked about with regards to performance. They also promote nVidia for this game and that was the only reason I chose to go with the nVidia card instead of the ATI eventhough generally speaking the ATI outperforms the nVidia. Hopefully it will run nicely with this game although I may need to upgrade to the nVidia 5700 before then since my system shipped like a week before these came out.

I thought Lineage 2 was out already? And the 3.6 gig isn't out

Lineage II is out and here are the system requirements

System Requirements:
Pentium III 800 or above; 256MB RAM; Geforce2 graphic card; Internet connection and monthly fee required

Yeah that was really the point of my post. He posted his message just the other day and the game is already out, but the 3.6 isn't hehe.

Lineage 2 was developed here in Korea.

Out of the 40 million people that live here, 5 million log on at least once a week to play.

When there was a major war going on between differing clans within the game world they actually interrupted programming to bring you live footage from the game.

No shi*.

Oops, gotta work. More on this later.

I play Lineage 2 (US Version) on my Area -51M and it runs pretty smooth at 1600x1200 with most graphics on when not around many other people but since this is a PvP type game I usually have most of them off for quick response and to avoid lag when others are around like in towns.

Surely those requirements for Longhorn cant be right...

What the hell is Mr Gates making thats gonna need a 6Ghz processor, 2gigs of ram and a TB of storage? It better offer a GUI similar to the one in Minority Report or even the Matrix if those requirements are actually confirmed by M$.

Quote:
Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
• PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system);* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended

• 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

• 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space*

• Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor

• CD-ROM or DVD drive

• Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
So, if we assume the current ratios of requirements to what people had when XP came out is the same for Longhorn, then when its released, the average system will be along the lines of 20Ghz processors, 60TB hard drives and 8GB of RAM?!?
