I will probably have to wait till tommorow before I can get any pictures of it online. I just installed windows on it, and let me tell you it is screamingly fast.

I would rank the screen as "pretty good." It is on par with most of what is out there. The only screen that I have personally seen that I would say is *better* than it is the wide angle view 1600x1200 that was on the 56XX Sagers for a while. It was hard to beat that screen. Overall it is just a hair below my Samsung 191t in overall quality.

I paid about $2000 for it painted. What is the rule as far as resellers go on these forums these days? Will I get banned if i say where i got it?

Any specific questions or benchmarks people want me to run? (I have been waiting for this laptop for over a year! )

No you will not get banned for saying where you bought it from. Just make sure you dont come off as if you are advertising for that vendor.

yes i think this LCD is perfectly fine when viewing it directly and at the sweet spot

its very bright and sharp...

i got a chance to meet wakeman (member of this forum) at a lan party and we had the 2 LCDS together in comparison

as you can see the wide viewing angle UXGA ofthe sager 5690 maintains its color at extreme angles while the CL doesnt. but thats ok i suppose if u dont need a presentation type LCD... colorwise they are the same.

i dont think it's that big of a deal, i think adam will remove the posts if he feels someone is deliberately bashing a specific vendor or something else of that nature. i don't see how it could hurt to tell us where you got it from.

edit: whups i'm slow today

pictures! benchmarks! pictures! benchmarks!

I'd very much appreciate knowing where you purchased it too. I'm looking at those exact specs for around 2k, without paint job... If I could get it painted too that would be awesome.
My best guess is he bought it from Velocity Micro.

Edit---> Looked at their prices, probably wasnt from there.
my guess is hypersonic... configured same specs and red paint for about that price
post #15 of 25
Everytime I see a picture of the screen on the 5690 and compare it to the one that I just received, I feel as if I got a dud. The color quality on the 5690 in those photos make mine look like poop poo poopoo

Are you sure you configured the right specs? I did it at hypersonic and it comes out to 2,300+ and thats without an OS.

$1625 for it shipped + ~$340 for the paint job. The unit itself was direct from ChemUSA and it was painted by *********. I got a pretty good deal on the laptop itself since I used to sell laptops so I still knew a couple people there. The ultimate irony is that when I get out of the laptop business I buy myself one.

Its been working very well today (I will take pics tommorow afternoon). The paint is absolutely amazing. Is it worth $299 + shipping for the paint... I'm not sure, but hey its only money.

EDIT: Guess I am not allowed to tell you where I got it painted lol.
Why do you say that? (about not being allowed to say where you got it painted?)

Also... how did you order from ChemUSA? I cant find any way to order it from their site.

discountlaptops.com sells them under the chembook label...

the color or viewing angle on the lcd doesnt bother me... I guess Im just not used to hgih quality screens, but I dont see why people make such a deal about it

I love my Cl56
