Poor 3dMark03 performance - please help!!

I have been experiencing some problems with my 8887.(Actually a Mesh 8880e, but same as 8887). Running 3dMark01SE = 7193, but running 3dMark03 only gives 103!! That cannot be right. I am running Catalyst 3.2 drivers, Windows XP Home SP1, DX9.0

Can someone please give some info - help? (I have defragged HD, closed other programs, etc)

Thanks,
Spudman

I also had low marks on 32mark03 {512}. I changed open gl and direct 3d drivers to default, also went to PC Pitstop, it determined I had programs running in background such as speed disk, indexing service, etc. Went to administrative services to switch them from automatic to manual.

Also did you try changing the driver with catalyst 3.2, I believe their are 2,3 or more drivers you can use. Good luck.

you cannot compare scores for 01 and 03.

And you do not have a dx9 card :j

NOTE :

Yes he does not have a DX9.0 card but he has to install DX9.0a to be able to run the 3D Mark 2003 program.

The scores are ok - I dont see anything wrong with them...

Most often you just have to make sure there are no other unnecessary processes or taskbar applications running. Clean out your registry using System Mechanic (www.iolo.com) and restart the system. Close all unnecessary processes and taskbar apps and then run the test.

Run at 1024x768 res with the default settings. The scores should get close to 7200 in 2001SE and 120 in 2003.

best of luck...

If you didnt install the OS yourself - DO IT YOURSELF from scratch. This is the cause of most problems because the installs they do for you are usually messed up. and they would not have installed the drivers like they should have.

Burn the latest drivers from sagernotebooks.com, s-seven.net, ATI on a CD and check them all out and use the one that performs the best without artifacting.

Thanks for all the help guys, but it still does not help. I have reformatted, and installed from new. Only drivers and stuff. I stil struggle with 3dMark03. Stil getting low scores. I understand that the ATI Mobility 9000 is not DX9 compatable, but surely it must give better performance than sub 100 on the Top of the range Sagers notebooks??

Mmm, Gsferrari, just one question: You said that 3dMark03 score of 120 is fine. Why are other people getting 1000+ scores on their machines with the same specs as mine??

OOPS!!

My bad!!

i meant 120 - you're getting 103??? thats not good at all!!!

Either your version of 3D Mark is bombed or you are running a lot of programs on the side.

I suggest a complete self-install of OS and the drivers as stipulated in the manual.

Make 2 partitions - one for OS and one for the rest of the stuff...

try this and post - and I am really sorry about that typing AND reading error...

Gsferrari, did all of that!! I reformatted into two partitions, installed OS anew with drivers from manual + updated Catalyst 3.2. Stil getting only around 100 3dMark03, but 3dMark01SE getting 7200. I also installed dx9 anew.

????? I do not know what is going on!!!

Possibilities

Seeing that your machine is doing well on the 3D Mark 2001 SE the only thing we can do is :-

1] Run SiSoft Sandra tests (the 4 benchmark tests - see the review - CPU Arithmetic, CPU Multimedia, Memory and one more...)

You can download Sandra for free...

2] Run the PC Mark 2002 test - free download from MadOnion.com

3] go to start menu, click RUN and type dxdiag and then hit ok or press enter...
Make a screenshot (Prt Sc button and then open MS Paint and paste. Save file as JPEG) and email them to me. Make a screenshot of each tab.

I am assuming your hardware is ok. I think you have a problem with the 3D Mark 2003 software you are using. Where did you get it from?? Remove it from your system and download a fresh one from Futuremark.com

Lemme know how it goes...

Did you get the DX9.0a from www.microsoft.com ?? Make sure you have that version...

I am betting it is a problem with the 3D Mark 2003 software...

You know,

3dmark is what it is. A benchmark. And a fancy one to that.

But the scores obtained from those benchmarks do not necessarily convert into actual performance in games or gfx/vid stuff.

Sometimes using a new or different drivers comes with a lower benchmark score but better performance. If you enjoy watching 3dmark01/03 for your relaxation go ahead! But I stick to games and video's =)

Gsferrari, it seems That things have gone better!!! It must have been the ATI Catalyst 3.2 drivers. I have downloaded the S-seven drivers and modified them for the Sager models. 3dMark03 now scores 1063 (Vast improvement from 102!!!)

Thanks for all your help. It is great to have somebody /(ies) to help with this sort of thing!!

Cheers,

3dMark03 score

I just downloaded and ran 3DMark03 and got a score of 2139. Is that good for my system? (see signature for my specs)

3Dmark 03 is a POS i havnt even installed it ONCE on my laptop since ive owned it (IE. November) iF you want to get true benchmarks use another program. 3dmark only benchs your vid card anyhow. BTW a good benchmark is a game maxed out... IE Farcry or unreal 2004. Cap the sucker and see what she can do

Point Of Sale? What does Point Of Sale have to do with it?

Benchies are a nice "baseline" for comparison, but real world performance (gaming is the real world isn't it?) is what counts. If you be gamin', who cares about the numbers?
exactly... if you get good frame rates in your fav games... it doesnt matter

You should be getting a minimum of 3,000+ in 3DMark03. Try downloading latest omega drivers.

Spaxspore, I know it only benchmarks my vid card. I was playing FarCry (1024x768 everything on default (medium) settings) and I started to get artifacts after about 30mins. I then realised I didn't have the latest drivers from Sager so I got the 7.97s (those are the Omega drivers, right Babbabresaur???). Someone advised me to get the latest Cat 4.3 drivers from ATI, but I couldn't install them! It said I didn't have the right components or something...

So these 3DMark scores (2100ish) was with 1280x1024 resolutions on all the tests. I dropped them down to 1024x768 and got a score of 2997... which is creeping up on that 3000 *MINIMUM*. I have a Sager! How can I be below the *minimum*?!?!?!

So after installing the new drivers, I played Far Cry again 1280x1024 and things were ok apart from it was a little jumpy. I'm guessing a 9600 should be able to handle Far Cry at that res without any problems. Is there anything I can do to increase performance? Could there still be a physical issue with my card?

EDIT:

The drivers from sager are not the omega drivers. Go to www.omegacorner.com and click on ATIradeon button on left and next webpage click on win2kxp {if you're using winxp}. Download these drivers from one of the mirrored sites, and read the readme file. Make sure that you uninstall the ati control panel in add remove programs before installing these drivers as they have a more comprehensive control panel. Once the drivers are installed you can go to radlinker in the display control panel and overclock the 9600pro if you like. Their control panel gives you more options to fiddle with. Try benchmarking using Futuremark 2003 or 2001 with default settings. On 2003 I was getting around 3500 with the 9600pro OC'd to 483engine/279memory and no artifacts.
