factory restore??

This is in realtion to my other thread dealing with my windows problems. I was wondering if there is any way to factory restore my sager. I have a compaq desktop and it had a factory restore disk included, (i guess they were planning ahead), the disk let me completely erase the hard drive and re-install windows all in one smooth step. I haven't seen anything like that for my 8886. I was also wondering what would be the best way to go about erasing the hard drive and re-installing windows from scratch.

Oh no not again

I think Adam has done this over completely before with one of the most comprehensive Windows installation instructions I have ever seen...

Please use this link and hereafter search before you post something like this which has most probably been dealt with before. aah crap - post whatever the hell you like we do and so should you

Insert the Windows OS Disk (XP or 2000?) and boot from it.

Once it is loaded up (a blue, DOS-like text screen), select the options that let you REINSTALL (not repair) and then on the disk partition screen, select the partition you want to install to, and FORMAT it. Installation proceeds from there.

Once the OS is all loaded, install the drivers from your driver CD (that came with the laptop) in the order prescribed in the manual.

Compaq's restore CD is really dumbed down, and Sagers typically are not for the "dumbed-down" crowd. However, it would not have hurt to have a system restore-type disk for people who do not (or have not) installed an Operating System and drivers.

There should be some additional information in the manual (I browsed through mine once, and seem to recall a few things about this in there).

I personally think it is CLEANER to do it yourself (rather than a sys-restore), but I have installed OS's plenty of times, so I have a level of comfort with it.

ive tried booting from the cd, but it gives me some message then boots normally. Maybe you could tell me how exactly to boot from the cd. I've tried changing the boot sequence to cd-rom first with no luck. Maybe im doing it wrong.

Not only do you have to change the boot-device order (like you did) in the BIOS, but when the CD starts loading, you need to press a key. It should say something like "Press any key to boot from CD" - then it will start booting.
