WTB: Dell 8600 or 9100 (or maybe a totally diff laptop depending on the specs/price)

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a mint condition (no dead pixels, no dings, no loose bits, no nuthin') I-8600 or 9100.

I would like for it to have:

-at least 512 MB of Ram (preferably more)

-at least 64 MB video graphics card (preferably 128 MB)

-at least 40 GB hard drive (preferably more)

-Wireless connection to be at least B/G compatible (preferably with "A" as well) -isn't Dell Truemobile the best to have in this regards, when buying a dell laptop?- what about bluetooth?

I'd like the 8600 to be an at least 1.6 GHz (but may consider less) processor
and the
9100 with Hyper Threading (doesn't really matter how fast it is, unless it's less than 2.6 Ghz).

If I don't make sense as to what I want, just realize I don't know as much about computers than probably more than 3 quarters of the people that post here. I've just been doing research like mad the past week and I'm just picking up on computer hardware jargon.

Anyway, please email me at defofstyle@aol.com or post here if you have something we can work out. As far as how much I'm looking to spend, it depends. Anywhere from $1,000 - $1,500, but *maybe* more depending on what you've got and how much I have in my paypal account (which is currently at $700, but I have more in my bank account...so the good news is that I would save someone money by not paying with a credit card).

2 years from now you might get someone who'll take your offer seriously. i mean, you are looking for something more like in the $3K price range if you are looking for a 9100 or a XPS.

may i suggest something cheapers like a HP/Compaq?

Well, that's why I wrote that I'm still learning about computers (ie., what they're worth, what to look for, etc...), and I prefaced that with my comment that I might be willing to look at something totally different.

With that in mind, I hear a lot of negative things about HPs and Compaqs. I may be swayed. But aside from hearsay, I don't even like they're look all too much. Just a personal preference. But I haven't seen any of their newer stuff. Just the laptops I browsed through at Best Buy when I ended up buying my Sony Vaio desktop.

As for the price range, I've seen some on ebay with the specs that I've wanted (new/in box, from reputable sellers--ie., awesome feedback rating, recent feedback from other long-standing ebayers that have bought similar products, etc..) for about, and around $2,000. I just thought maybe I could get a slightly better deal.

Seems like I may have to go up that high, but I'll have to wait a month then. I'm funding most of my laptop-purchasing money by selling various stuff on ebay--old concert shirts, brand name clothes I no longer like, dvds, etc. And I find that I'm making a pretty decent amount of money for things I don't even care to own anymore.

I'll probably repost later on with a similar query once I get more money. But if there are any offers (and I got one--although in the $3K price range), hit me up at the same address.

And can anyone tell me more about Toshibas, HPs, and others? (In a nutshell, 'cause I know I could probably just go on the other folders and read about them. Just more time efficient this way, I guess.)
