Sigmatel drivers..

Thread Starter
I reloaded windows xp on my 8600 yesterday and used the latest Dell Sigmatel drivers off the Dell site.

Only thing is, the volume and mute buttons don't work now up near the on/off switch. How do I fix this?

You need the Dell Quickset utility for those features!

Yup.

Maybe it is different on the D800 since the volume up/down and mute still function on the center bezel using these latest SigmaTel drivers without the Quickset util.

I agree .. The volume/mute buttons on my 8600 and XPS worked perfectly fine without having to install the Dell Quickset ..

Same here, I'm using a D600, volume/mute buttons work great, quickset is NOT installed...

I have downloaded the latest Quickset and it works.

Thanks..

It is not quickset that is required for those, the System software also adds support. So if you have system software but no quickset they should work

Weird. No system software or quickset. Just Windows 2003 SP1 running the latest SigmaTel driver...the buttons still work fine.

Yeah, that one is a bit unusual..... perhaps because you have the D800, might not need either of those pieces of software, built in BIOS support perhaps.

If I reformat again, I will see if it works on my i8600 without the Quickset or system software. (If I remember to)

Any new tips? My volume up/dn buttons above the keyboard stopped working about a week or so ago. I've searched this and the Dell community forums, and have downloaded the latest Sigmatel and Dell Quickset drivers. Now I have a cool blue display for volume and a yellow display for screen brightness, but the actual buttons still do not work. The volume will work with the Fn + PageUp/Dn, but I prefer the one-finger buttons at the top. Any suggestions aside from re-installing windows? My system runs great with no complaints otherwise...

I would definatly call tech support, maybe something is defective and need replaced.

Well I found my problem. After lifting off the faceplate at the top of the keyboard, I found that there was some dried residue (from an unknown liquid - thanks kids!) on the contacts underneat, so I cleaned them up and now they're working again. I just have a hard time trying to figure out the difference between software or hardware issues. Guess I should look at all options next time!
