General notebook questions/double checking!

1.) Screen resolution: XGA, SXGA or UXGA/WXGA, WSXGA, WUXGA Ever since I started buying notebooks, I always went for the UXGA, SOMETIMES the SXGA screens because I thought or still do think, the higher up you go the better you screen is going to be. I have always stayed away from XGA resolution because I just figured it was cheap, the lowest end of the scale so why bother? How do you know what resolution of a screen you should configure a notebook with? I pretty much do everything on a notebook, email, web surfing, chat, music, videos, burning you get the picture. What is the minimum resolution that I should stick with in general?

2.) Centrino processors: I believe the newest ones out are now the 2.0 GHz chips but you can go as low as 1.4 still (I think.) I was always told that a Centrino 1.5 GHz chip was the same as a P4 2.5 GHz chip, something like you add 1000 MHz to the Centrino and that is what it is compared to the P4 chip, is this correct or if not please make adjustments. If I go with Centrino, do I really need to get a 2.0 GHz chip, 1.8, 1.7, 1.6 or can I go as low as 1.3 or 1.4? Refer to item number 1 for what I do on my computer. This Centrino processor question will really be the deciding factor in whether I go with a Dell Inspiron 8600 or a Compaq Presario R3000T notebook.

Like I said in other posts, soon I will be buying a notebook and I really want this to be my last machine for quite a while that I buy. I want to get what I need, what will take me into the years to come but I also dont want to get things to high that I really dont need either.

Thanks.

1) http://www.hut.fi/~tgustafs/screensize.html

it all depends on what you are comfortable with, some people find XGA fine for what they need to do and even like the bigger icon / font size. i like as much screen real estate as i can get so UXGA would be great to have, but i also have good eyesight and things get very very small when you put that on a 15'' screen.

2) you can definitely stick with a 1.4 / 1.5 ghz P-M to do all the things mentioned above and save a lot of money. i like the compaq over the dell personally.
