Trouble Accessing Windows Update

Hey guys, just got another Compal CL 56 with the 2.0 Dothan and so far I love it. I ordered it without in OS because my school offers XP Pro for $7.00. Any way I need to get some updates for windows to get my 2.0 USB drives operable. But on the Windows update page when I click scan for updates I get a "WINDOW UPDATE ERROR: WINDOWS UPDATE HAS ENCOUNTERED AN ERROR AND CANNOT DISPLAY THE REQUESTED PAGE." Did I do something wrong or do I need to wait a couple of days for Microsoft to register my version of XP Pro? Thanks for any help.

Make sure you have a language selected in internet explorer. Tools internet options, language button, and make sure there is a language there, or it wont let you get updates. Seems dumb, but it happens.

Thanks guys. I have checked the language settings in internet explorer and it is set to English. Hopefully I just have to wait for a couple days for Microsoft to recognize XP Pro.

My guess is security options in IE (or possibly your antivirus). The update page needs to install something the first time you visit the page. If your settings are too restrictive, it will automatically refuse without asking.
