i8600 - Wireless - SSID broadcast disabled ...

When I have SSID broadcast enabled on my router (Linksys WRT54g/WiFi Box), along with WEP 128 bit etc, I have no trouble connecting with my laptop.

When I disable SSID broadcast, it seems my laptop can no longer connect to my router. It thinks it can 'see' that there is a 'no-name' network broadcasting (should it even be doing that?), but cannot connect to it (even though I have the SSID configured on my latop)

Any thoughts?

TIA,
Chris

Could it be someone else in the area has another wireless network .. I know the Windows Zero Configuration is flakey when connecting to a router with SSID disabled .. It constantly drops connections. Not sure if your problem could be related.

Are you using the Dell Truemobile wireless card? If so you can go into the Dell wireless LAN card utility and under the Wireless Connections tab check the box for let this tool manage your wireless settings. I heard when you use the manufactures utility to manage your wireless connection and not let Windows control it it had a more stable connection when SSID is disabled.

Hi Planet-Ed - I'm using the 'standard' Intel PRO/Wireless 2200. I had read about the flakey-ness of letting Windows handle it, so was using the Intel software.

When I've got SSID enabled, the connection is pretty rock solid, so it's got me stuffed .....
