8886 and Battlefield Vietnam

My 8886 doesn't seem to like Battlefield Vietnam. It has a Radeon 9000M with 64MB RAM. I have a a Gig of PC2100 RAM, 60 GB 7200 RPM HDD, P4 2.4, and it plays BF Vietnam at decent frame rates, just has graphics corruption. See this pic...

I'm running the Omega 2.5.44 drivers

Does anyone elde have this problem, or found a fix?

Thanks,

I've seen it on mine and a buddy's brand new 9800XT desktop card. I found if you lower the resolution it helps some what.

Heh, I get that often with my 8887, too. Got it in BF: Desert Combat and the original BF: 1942 game.

It comes and goes with video drivers and with games. Some games are fine, others get the transparent textures. Really sucks when you shoot the invisible hill in front of you with a bazooka and blow yourself up.

ATI has a fix for this with the v 4.6 Catalyst drivers, but you can't get mobility drivers from them, and Sager still has ancient drivers listed in their downloads.

I tried the omega 4.5 drivers, but have the same thing. I tried to install the new drivers from ATI, but they say "no compatible hardware found".

Sager needs to update the video drivers once in a while!

HA!!!

FIXED!!!!

Here's how to get it all working...

Download the new ATI Catalyst Drivers here

http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

Then download this tool...

http://www.davidhanefelt.dk/MobileMod3.exe

Run the setup for the new drivers and it will extract all the files to your hard drive, but will then complain that no supported hardware is found. No problem, run the MobileMod3 tool, and update the drivers you just put on your hard drive using the tool. No uninstall your old existing drivers from control panel (add/ remove software). Once you reboot, Windows will detect new hardware, just point it to where your new (modded) drivers are on your hard drive, it will install and life is good.

Battlefield Vietnam is WORKING, and feels faster too. I haven't tried BF1942 or Desert Combat yet, but they should work too.

Happy Camper!

Wait.... Before I could get this finished its back. Looked great for about 10 minutes though. Man, I'll keep trying stuff, but I'm running out of ideas.

The second link did not work for me. I even went to the guy's page and tried downloading the Rage3d/MM4.exe thing, and that didn't work either.

I suppose we should look for some mirrors for that MobileMod3.exe unless you have it and can have it hosted somewhere...

Make sure to use the patch for BFV. I am using the latest Omega drivers and all seems good. Also with BFV, you may need to set your res to 800x600 (in game res). BTW, here is a cool mod for BF 1942. http://stargate-bfm.net/

BFV is a terriable release. BF2 should be alot better.

Here's another link to that file...

http://server.conitec.net/down/mobilemod3.exe

It did allow me to get the latest drivers installed, and while the corruption was not as bad, it did return. Too bad, that's my LAN party machine.

I haven't tried that mod to BF Vietnam yet, I didn't think it covered any graphical issues though.

Ranger- Do you run that game on a Radeon 9000 Mobile?

Thanks for the alternate links... and bummer about the problem returning. That's how I remember it, sometimes it's there, other times it isn't. I wonder if it's related to heat or something. Happens with all the different drivers I've tried.

The new Omega Drivers have solved the problem. They are based on the Catalyst 4.6 drivers, but somehow this version of the Omega drivers have solved the graphics problem that the standard 4.6 drivers could not.
