So finally here it is, a hopefully very through and detailed review of Hypersonic’s Aviator CX6 Laptop by Azstinger:

Ordering experience: Of course placing the order was very simple and easy to do so no complaints there (well perhaps the cost lol but I knew what I was getting into when I bought this thing so again no complaints.) I will say that unless you call hypersonic you really do have no idea what is going on with your laptop and I wish that they had improved upon that on their website.

The Wait: boo hiss boo this was horrible but so is everyone’s. I ordered on 4/28 and received on 6/4 so no to bad. And because of the wait I got upgraded to Next Day air and the 1.7 Dothan (not the 2.0 my dad misheard the lady on the phone but either way I was very happy with them). Their use of hold could defiantly be less as I was placed on hold quite a few times not to hear from the sales assistant for a good long while.

Shipping: No problems here it was overnighted to my dads work so 0 problems here it was quick and effective. The packaging the laptop had was quite good, and it would have taken quite a hit before the laptop would have been damaged.

Startup: Fast but not to much faster then my desktop systems. Bios goes by in a heartbeat then the XP portion takes a little bit but still quicker then my desktops. Overall very good.

First Impersions: well you can read about those in other threads after all now that I’ve had it for a while who really cares about initial impressions right?

Paintjob: I decided against a automotive paintjob for a couple of reasons but namely due to the fact ill be living in a college dorm room next year and laptop theft is very high in those places so I’d really not have something that screams STEAL THIS ONE!!!! ITS WORTH A LOT!!! Though while on my cruise I did have several people coment on what a nice looking laptop I had. So I was very pleased with this portion

Display: Absolutely great not a single dead pixel (but I did get the extra insurance). No light leakage like some other models or so at least I’ve heard. The resolution while defiantly not the highest on the market is perfect for me. I get tons of space and everything is just the right size so that I am no constantly squinting.

Sound: Ehhh. I wasn’t expecting too much and that’s exactly what I got. Though when I plug in my Bose headphones its absolutely great!!!!. The speakers are fine for light stuff in a non loud area. In a loud area they probably could be drowned out and the base as with all laptops is kinda cruddy but I am very spoiled with my desktop speakers so it was hard to adjust but I am.

Fans: This laptop generally is about as loud as a graveyard. I mean its almost spooky how quite it is. When the DVD drive kicks that is noisy but not to bad. When the main fan kicks on (which takes a quite a lot) its is slightly noisy but not any louder then what I hear from my single fan desktop. The one exit port does get really toasty and I wouldn’t want to my hand right there but its high and on the left so there’s no reason my hand should ever be there.

Optical Drive: No complaints about this puppy. It works fine again it seems slightly slow but that’s only when compared to my 54x one I have on my desktop but its just fine. I have burned a single DVD and it was easy, slightly slow but easy. When the optical drive kicks in it does cause the laptop to shake a little but nothing to really complain about just something I have noticed.

Heat: The bottom gets warm but that’s it. I have had it on my lap quite a lot and it doesn’t bother me at all. The palm rest area gets warm but much cooler then the bottom and I really cant say I notice it much at all.

Power Brick: Smaller then I was expecting. It gets warmer then the bottom of the laptop but its still defiantly hand friendly. One feature that I really wasn’t expecting on it but like quite a lot is the fact that it has this light to tell me if the brick is drawing power from the wall (which I found quite handy since most outlets in my house are controlled by a switch somewhere). Its not featherweight but it also isn’t a paperweight either

Case: Everything seems to spaced well. The basic paintjob is also quite nice. The USB ports are well spaced so that I can plug in two USB devices onto of one another. There are two sets of identical lights that let you know if you are on battery charging and plugged in so even with the lid shut I can have an idea of what is going on.

Touchpad: Defiantly takes some getting used to. But that’s no fault of this laptop. I have found the touchpad to quite responsive and nice. You can even tap the touchpad to click which I like quite a lot. I have even done the biggest gaming laptop taboo there is…gamed using the touchpad. It was slightly difficult but doable. The single bar at the bottom is not a problem at all either.

Keyboard: Smaller but right on par with my desktop. The keyboard is stiff but not to stiff defiantly no flex to it. The only thing that takes some getting used to is the fact the Ctrl key is not on the far left and that spot is reserved for the Fn key. But I have no complaints about this laptop

Gaming experience: great, simply put great. While on the cruise I played many many games. Including UT04, BF 1948, BF Vietnam, C&C Generals, Far Cry. All of which ran smooth as glass on this. On all but fry cry I could run with everything turned all the way up. Though far cry does run “good” with all the specs turned up its runs betters somewhere between medium and high. But so far everything I have thrown at this has been beaten down.

Benchmarks:

3dmark03 : 2805
AquaMark: Aquamark03 score of 22,287

CPU Score of 8608
GPU Score of 2559

Battery Life: Though I havn’t clocked it using if for light use and tooling it out for max battery I would say I have gotten around 4 hours on this thing. Again I havn’t really clocked it nor will I, I doubt at least. I was able to watch to a movie ( interrupted many times so probably 5 or so power ups and powerdowns).

Portability: Great. Though lugging that 6.5lbs is more then I expected it to be it is by no means heavy. On the plane ride it was very easy to open it up and see the screen even with the person in front of my slightly reclined.

Media Card Reader: I uploaded just short of 300 pics over the last week and all through that, and it worked great (i have only tested memory sticks and no other form of card so give me a few and I will).

Wifi: Again great. I have used wifi in two places now. In my house where the signal is good. And at long beach airport where they had free wifi. And at both places it immiedialty picked up the signal and had zero problem connecting. It came with the Intel program which seems to have helped quite a bit.

Other: This laptop came with a few programs installed in it, but nothing that I havn’t liked, or not used yet.

I think that’s about it. If you have any questions look for my threads on either notebookforums.com or voodoo.ca and their boards.

Thanks go out to Voodoopcfreak for hosting this review and its accomining pics and vid.

very nice. So it's settled. The Mitac 8050 offers a solid 3.5-4hr battery life. Not what I was hoping for but I guess I can make do.
can ungcas, laoxz or aztinger please give specific battery times for the following:
1.) watching a movie
2.) surfing internet
3.) gaming
I'm 90% sure about ordering the mitac, I just really need to know the specific battery life, not a conjecture.

P.S. My parents just confirmed that if I behave, I can order last day of June. Yes, my parents have complete control over me...

CX6 AC adapter size/weight?

Not that it would be a deal-breaker, but can someone let me know the size/weight of the AC adapter on the CX6?

Thanks,
Scott

Approximately 1/3 size of a cd jewel case and probably weighs 7-8 ounces. Quite small i would say!
Jesus, that's small. Well, that's the deal breaker for me! mitac 8050 here I come!!!
Thank you, Ungcas. That is small! I've already ordered, so it's additional reassurance.

Tourney - why does a small adapter send you to the Mitac??

hAHa i think he's just being sarcasting.. But honestly the adapter is very small a light. My old dell is nearly 2 times the weight and it is 3 prong!! I wish i had discovered this forum 2 years ago. No more dell for me!
Yeah, I was being sarcastic, but the small size of the adapter is a definite plus.

CX5 is none widescreen and has a gradient display problem ( unevenly light screen). Some say its bad some say its not. It does have a higher resolution though.

CX6 definately has a better quality display. Its widescreen and lower resolution thuogh.

Are you experienced with hardware? Have you thought about building it yourself? I hear RJtech has some really good prices on the Mitac.

I don't think anything drastic will happen over the next month. Maybe we will see a new 7200 rpm hd. Maybe cpu price will drop a few %.
I'm moderately experienced with hardware, I'm pretty good at learning too. But i remember reading another announcement that said it saved only around 100 bucks.

Thing is, saving a little money isn't what is key to me. It is finding the best blend of performance, screen, battery life, and weight for around 2k.

I mean, if i saw a new model with WSXGA, 6lbs, 5 hrs battery life, with good processor, I'd pounce on it even if it had a premium price.

What i'm trying to say is that there is some flaw in everything i've seen so far, either bad display, or lowered battery life, etc.. I just gotta still research and figure out what matters to me most

hp zt3000 meets all your criteria

unfortunately it also has a MR9200
yea, well anything that has less than MR9700 is out of the picture.

now if only some other company took that hp case with that display and put in some real components...
