Asus M6Ne + ATI 9700 is gonna be awhile

I've exchanged a few e-mails with Ron over at Powernotebooks.com. First off, I have to agree with those who've praised Powernotebooks. They really are fast with answers and responses. I asked Ron when the M6Ne w/ATI 9700 will be available. He told me that they don't expect to see that model for at least 45-60 days, despite the fact that Asus is advertising the 9700 on its site. Ron said that Asus is deciding whether to offer the 64MB or 128MB ATI 9700 in the M6Ne, which is adding to the delay. So, if Ron is correct, anyone looking for the 9700 in the M6Ne is in for a long wait.

Yeah, that surprised me, as well. After much consideration, I've decided that the M6N is the way to go for my notebook needs. I don't plan on gaming much, if at all, on my notebook, so I'll probably buy a current M6N at the end of the month.

Hey, check out my post count. It's at 999. Kinda cool!!

it is a really nice system. looks very solid, i've always enjoyed asus mobo stability for my DIY. only problem i can see is the placement of the CTRL key (doh). do you know if the battery actually lasts 5 hrs like they say?

Proportable has the m6bne is listed on their site with a 64 mb 9700.

Hmmm...I guess the question is do they have it in-stock, or is it just a pre-order?
Yeah, I got an email from Proportable last night saying that the m6n with 9700 is instock.

Cool! Maybe I'll just go for it, now!

I discussed them at length with Justin (very nice guy)they are not "pre-orders". If I can get confirmation that the 9700/64 is sufficient to run FarCry at high settings, and that the monitor (15.4 wxga) has a good response time, I will likely get one of these units.

Also interested in the noise level of the unit and overclockability of the vidcard.

I think it's available. someone in another thread already bought one.

I just checked proportable's site. The M6NBe w/ATI 9700 is definitely there. It looks like you can only get it with the 15.4" WXGA screen. That kinda blows. I'd order it if it had the 15" SXGA+ screen.

Sold it on Ebay. It never left my desk because of the size, weight, and battery life. A killer desktop replacement though, but I needed something more mobile. Picked up a new Gateway m505x on Ebay for $1200 and I am loving it. Radeon 9600, almost 5 hrs battery life, thin and light, amazing sound system. Wish the resolution was higher (I am used to wsxga+), but it will hold me over until the "perfect" notebook comes along.

The ACIM6NE is sxga+. The ACIM6BNE is wxga. Both are in stock.

My boss is a reseller, and yes the M6Bne Have been in the hands of most resellers for about a week, And if not than asus distibutors have a bunch of them in, so they can be ordered through your reseller, Also no there will be no 128mb version of the 9700 available in this model, the notebooks have already been manufactured in taiwan and are being shipped to resellers and distributers as we speak, If there will be a 128mb version it will be the next model and we wont see it for quite some time.

Looks like Powernotebooks is behind the curve on this one!
Yeah, Ive had my laptop for a couple of days now so its definatly out. Proportable has had them for a little over a week already, just not on the site, and my reseller said that any reseller could order one because the distributor has them, also i blieve that there is no proce increase on the new model from what proportable has told me.

HolyW -- I'm ready to order an M6Ne from Proportable. I just wanted to ask a couple questions about your experience. Is your M6 light enough to carry around easily? I want to be sure that it won't be burdensome because Proportable does not accept returns on their "customized" notebooks, like the M6. Also, how long did it take to receive it after placing your order. Thanks!

Hey, yes i find the notebook to be easy to carry around, although i dont know whether your reffering to aroundthe house, or around town. Around the house it is a breeze, it is very slim for its performance, I love the sleek Business looks. I carry it in the messenger bag that it came with ( nice bag in my opinion, go for 30-40 at best buy) it is light and thats with the powerbrick and optical mouse. Although i did not order from proportable my entire time from placing order to revieving was 10 days. It would have been 4 but if they didnt **** up than i wouldnt have gotten the 9700 version.
