Another Short Review Of the Aopen Lappy
Hi guys,
I just recieved my E turbo configured as such;
Dothan 2.0
1 GB Kingston Ram
Radeon 9700
Blue Paint Job
I posted my pics on Shutter fly the link is
Shutter Fly pics of Aopen 1557G
I dont have access to a webserver or I would post them here.
Buying expierience:
3.5 weeks from order to door. Multiple delays relating to 2.0 processor or blue paint job. Company was not all that great at reporting delays. However if I called my rep Danny he was usually able to give me an update. The online order status was useless.
Arived double boxed and in good condition. There are some minor scratches just below the spacebar where the black plastic meets the blue. Looks like someone used some sort of tool to pry the plastic off the paint. Only slightly noticeable though.
Configuration Errors:
Company did not install the centrino patch, at least I think. The fans were reving up to a load obnoxious screem almost constantly until I installed this. Now it is much better. The drivers for the memory card reader were also not installed, downloaded from the aopen site, and now it works great.
Comments on issues addressed so for on this forum:
Heat: The laptop gets warm on the right bottom underneath where the fan is, The fan now only kicks in to an audible level when playing games. Not a problem, and not ever audible when using the computer for normal tasks. When playing games the air blowing out of the right side is not warm enough to be a problem when using a mouse on that side, and it is certainly not a problem with using the keyboard or touch pad.
Keyboard: Clear or black. Mine has a very opaque dark blue keypad. You cannot really see through it and I think it looks pretty cool with the blue paint job. You can judge for yourself. I have played farcry for a while, and have not noticed any problems with the simultaneous keypress issue. I dont think it exists on this lappy.
Screen: I agree wholeheartedly with the original author of this thread. Their are some slight problems with green and blue out of the box, and the screen does look a little washed out. This did not get any better using Adobes gamma correction tool. I also installed the new version of the omega drivers and this has not helped with screen appearance. I hope someone can figure this out and post step by step instructions on how to tweak this. This being said I am not all that annoyed by the screen and am pretty happy with it.
Performance:
Thusfar I have only played around with 3dMark I will post the results as OCed and not Oced (relative to the 9700 settings).

Test Remarks:
1) I have no idea how 3D mark is reading my CPU as Unknown 1238 and 1294. I used intels processor frequency tool and it comes up as 2.0 GHZ present and expected, so I am not sure what is going on here, maybee someone can help. Does it have something to do with the speedstep of centrino, if so can I turn this off while gaming?
2) I clocked the vid processor using ATI tools. I could have pushed it a little further but I dont want to fry it. It seems to play farcry rather well with no errors at the above settings.
I dont have detailed comments about battery life yet.
I am more than willing to try any other tests, take more pics, or answer any other questions you guys might have. And I would love to hear anyones input on the above processor speed issue, suggested core and mem clock for the radeon, and Someone please help me tweak the screen a little.
Thanks
