Battalion-101~ E turbo Review - Page 4

Jesus Christ, do you people not read the thread......

Please take the time to read the progression of the screen. How it came is not how you see it now!!!! Again... The way the computer arrived is not how you see it now. I had to do tons of work to get it to the state it is now. I did mention just a few posts ago that the color issues have all but been resolved.. please don't make me quote myself. You can still see the laptop is still having a tough time with the green color (which I can't seem to resolve). The Orc doesn't look as Green as the Orc on the desktop LCD and the green coloration in the floor just doesn't show as it does on the desktop LCD.

I borrowed the camera to take the photo's so please bare with their quality. You can see how the veiwing angles on the laptop are dark toward the top of the screen in the last photo. I have a few more pictures I will send over to Rince.

Again.... out of the box... that laptop did not look the way you see in that picture. I had to put in about 2-3 hours to get it to look that way.

Dude, that screen is awesome. One of the best I've ever seen.

Well Tourney, I am not dumb enough to argue opinions so I will just respect yours. To me, the greens are not shown properly. I see it in the trees, the ground and some other areas as well.

Now if I can capture the viewing angle problems. I don't have a camera so this might be a problem as I don't think the photo's I took adequately demonstate what I mean.

I will try my best though.

Thanks goes out to Rince though for helping me out with the pictures.

What I'd love to hear about though.... how about that 100 dollar paint job? I, for one, was impressed except for that chip.

I was joking stomp. Although sarcasm is hard to see in type, I added the " " to make it obvious. Good luck on the greens.

Ohhh Ok... I thought for a second that I was going color blind =(

Seems as though we have encountered one other problem with the laptop. It is not waking up from when it goes into sleep mode on battery.....

So that is strike 3 and I think we will have to send it back.

Now I have to decide what to get next but we are leaning toward the Ferarri (well it is my wife's laptop so she is picking)

I hope the viewing angles on the Ferrari are decent.
Im pretty sure there gonna be the same

My cousin has a ferrari 3000 and we had it side by side and during our tests the screen color would change at the same angle once it was out of its sweet spot...

Try this stomp... set up one of your shortcuts to run this line:

c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState

let it sleep for 1 minute and try to wake it...

I've never had a problem waking up from sleep

-also do you have two versions of it? because u have like stomp on one and stompetta on the other... u get 2 and i get 0!!! how ungfair!!!!

-also this has been asked, but it seems like u have been gaming a bit now on that thingy... how are the keys... im realy concernd about presing like 4 buttons at once and only 2 responding.. also is it silent... and also is it loud to type...

The bigger problem I have with the viewing angles is the slight adjustments i have to make to the screen position when i adjust my posture in my chair. I don't care about viewing angles from the sides.

how far up and down did you have to move your head to be out of the sweet spot?
I dont know I am usually in a fixed position

If I'm out of the sweet spot there is a slight color change.. no biggie

I sit back down and its @ sweet spot again

Its about a 3-5 degree leeway
rincewind, if i had some spare cash from my loan, i would have sent it to you for being so awesome
post #72 of 99
Great pics Stomp. Finally I can see the quality of the screen. Although I could probably deal with the horrible viewing angles, I think I'll just stick with the mitac 8050.

Another Short Review Of the Aopen Lappy

Hi guys,

I just recieved my E turbo configured as such;

Dothan 2.0
1 GB Kingston Ram
Radeon 9700
Blue Paint Job

I posted my pics on Shutter fly the link is

Shutter Fly pics of Aopen 1557G

I dont have access to a webserver or I would post them here.

Buying expierience:

3.5 weeks from order to door. Multiple delays relating to 2.0 processor or blue paint job. Company was not all that great at reporting delays. However if I called my rep Danny he was usually able to give me an update. The online order status was useless.

Arived double boxed and in good condition. There are some minor scratches just below the spacebar where the black plastic meets the blue. Looks like someone used some sort of tool to pry the plastic off the paint. Only slightly noticeable though.

Configuration Errors:

Company did not install the centrino patch, at least I think. The fans were reving up to a load obnoxious screem almost constantly until I installed this. Now it is much better. The drivers for the memory card reader were also not installed, downloaded from the aopen site, and now it works great.

Comments on issues addressed so for on this forum:

Heat: The laptop gets warm on the right bottom underneath where the fan is, The fan now only kicks in to an audible level when playing games. Not a problem, and not ever audible when using the computer for normal tasks. When playing games the air blowing out of the right side is not warm enough to be a problem when using a mouse on that side, and it is certainly not a problem with using the keyboard or touch pad.

Keyboard: Clear or black. Mine has a very opaque dark blue keypad. You cannot really see through it and I think it looks pretty cool with the blue paint job. You can judge for yourself. I have played farcry for a while, and have not noticed any problems with the simultaneous keypress issue. I dont think it exists on this lappy.

Screen: I agree wholeheartedly with the original author of this thread. Their are some slight problems with green and blue out of the box, and the screen does look a little washed out. This did not get any better using Adobes gamma correction tool. I also installed the new version of the omega drivers and this has not helped with screen appearance. I hope someone can figure this out and post step by step instructions on how to tweak this. This being said I am not all that annoyed by the screen and am pretty happy with it.

Performance:

Thusfar I have only played around with 3dMark I will post the results as OCed and not Oced (relative to the 9700 settings).

OVERCLOCKED
CPU Unknown 1238 MHz
FSB 133 MHz

No OC
CPU Unknown 1294 MHz

Display Information
Graphics Chipset ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600
Driver Name ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600/9700 Series (Omega 2.5.51)
Driver Version 6.14.10.6451
Driver Status Non WHQL - Not FM Approved
Video Memory 128 MB
Core Clock 398 MHz
Memory Clock 202 MHz
Main Test Results
3DMark Score 2909 3DMarks
CPU Score 622.0 CPUMarks

Test Remarks:

1) I have no idea how 3D mark is reading my CPU as Unknown 1238 and 1294. I used intels processor frequency tool and it comes up as 2.0 GHZ present and expected, so I am not sure what is going on here, maybee someone can help. Does it have something to do with the speedstep of centrino, if so can I turn this off while gaming?

2) I clocked the vid processor using ATI tools. I could have pushed it a little further but I dont want to fry it. It seems to play farcry rather well with no errors at the above settings.

I dont have detailed comments about battery life yet.

I am more than willing to try any other tests, take more pics, or answer any other questions you guys might have. And I would love to hear anyones input on the above processor speed issue, suggested core and mem clock for the radeon, and Someone please help me tweak the screen a little.

Thanks

I was hoping that is was just my screen that was defective =(. That picture you posted above looks identicle to the issues I have with my screen. I wish the screen would be better and this would be the perfect laptop.

More info

Ive posted the pics on another site if the firs does not work.

Second Aopen site

Also anyone know why the omega drivers cause 3dmark to recoginize my graphics card as a 9600 instead of a 9700. Anyone think I should just be using the stock drivers instead?

I forgot to mention that the built in wireless card has been working well with my 80211 B linksys router. I have not yet tried it with a g source. The range is as good as with every thing else I have ever tried, if not a little better.
Stomp,

Any one thing you did that fixed the blues and greens, or should I just continue trying to tweak with the gamma setting in the ATI control panel.
