I was looking for something like this, nice find!

Now I have the same thoughts as you, which one to get

Something like this be perfect for the 5670 I get in a few hours.

Edit: I ordered the EZ LAP after all

I got the cooler pad from mcgailpc.com for $20 and free shipping.

I havent actually used it yet cuz I just ordered my laptop today. But I can tell you that it seems very quiet and the lights on the front are very blue, and very bright! and the on/off switch is a major plus.

just be sure to inspect it if you do order from them cuz IMO their packaging leaves something to be desired.

Of those 2 id say the top one is better for a sager, but I think theres been some pretty good word from people like Myrkat (sorry if I spelled your name wrong! ) about the Laptop Desk

so you might wanna check them out, they look pretty good to me.

I use this nexus laptop coller w/ my 8886 and i love it.

http://www.nexustek.nl/Nexus_TDD3000.htm

it uses heatpipe tech.
heatpipe technology is cool and all, but it seems like that thing would be a bit counter-productive....

The illustration on their site shows the heat moving from the middle section to the outer sections, I ASSUME that can work the other way around as well. If not then it seems like you would just be moving the heat from the center of the laptop, to right under the 8887's heatsink!

Even if it does work both ways, your still just moving the heat around under the laptop. it would be nice to see some 3rd party test results vs. other methods/devices.

IMO, I would have more faith in something that moved the heat away from the laptop instead of just moving it around underneath it.

here's some coolerpad pictures

here are some pics of the coolerpad.

my only complaint so far is that the feet/pads on the bottom aren't very effective/grippy.

As you can see, the LED's are very bright.

airflow comes in thru the top and out the big slot in the back.

I see what you're saying but really a good cooling pad imho needs to raise the laptop and cool the air being taken into the fans, both of which are done by the nexus pad. plus the pads footprint is smaller than the laptop so the edge where the heatsink is sticks out over the edge and is a good two inches from the heatpipes. I will try to post a pic if i get a chance.

Nice photos. How durable is it? Can you heft your sager up and carry it by the pad alone?

I carry my 8887 and mouse/left speaker on my laptop desk and it's pretty durable (there is deflection, of course, but it's designed for it).

How would the CoolerPad do in cases of Moment-Shear (i.e. twisting)? Can you hold it w/ one hand w/ laptop on it? What's the deflection like?

Now, I know it's very difficult to hold a 8887 up with one hand, but I've done it! It's tricky, though.

Looks like a nice add-on,

first of all, it is plastic, so I wouldn't recomend suspending it between two chairs and standing on it.

It feels like it can take a good bit of twisting force, but the fan-grills are plastic and Inherently somewhat flimsy. If you push down in the ceter of each grill it doesnt take much to touch it to the fan. But there is only a little less than a millimeter of clearance anyways.

It measures 10.6x11.8x.55 inches, so it probably isn't even visible under an 8887. I will put up a pic of my 8887 on top of it when it gets here. (should look pretty cool with those blue LED's glowing under the front)

I think I will need to add some more little rubber feet to it, cuz i'm not very happy with it's traction. like I said, the bottom pads suck. It slides around like an optical mouse on my llinolium (SP?) floor.

Over-all it's small, has little traction, has cool blue lights, and an on/off switch. But I wouldn't stand on it. Due to those somewhat flimsy grills, I would be carefull what you put up against it in a backpack.

I read that some members bought the EZ lap desk. Can you please tell me how the performance? Is it really make your laptop cooler?

How about the cooler pad? Do you get many advantages from it? Make your laptop much cooler?

Thanks...

The EZ LAP I had ordered was in back order, but it shipped today, will be here by friday, since I chose fedex 3 day.

I will let you know if I feel it was worth the purchase, once I recieve it.

Looking at it ...

It seems to me that the pad with fans can actually heat up your notebook instead of cooling it. Here is why:

1) The fans on the pad suck air form below the notebook. This produces "negative" pressure under the machine.

2) The CPU cooler fans also suck air from below the notebook. If both, the CPU and the pad, fans are on they will "compete" for the airflow. This will reduce the effectiveness of the CPU fans. Thus the notebook will get hotter (assuming the CPU is the main heat source).

It will be better if the pad fans blow (or "pump in") air below the notebook. This way they will "help" the CPU fans and produce a cooler system.

Rado

I recieved the EZ LAP today, and can gladly say it was worth the $10.00 bux

Nothing really special about it, but it does it's job as advertised.

I am sure this has been asked before.

I saw once a notebook whcih needed the coller all the time, even on the desk. It was becomming to hot and the OS crashed (was a toshiba, very old, very small, very cool!)

So when I see this thread I am afraid that the Sager will perform like that too.

So here is the question, could I have my (I dont have one jet) 5670 on the desk for a hole day. Turned on and working without overheating?
I am talking about a desk not in my lap.

How long does the Sager 5670 survive in the lap? What happens if overheating> Just turning off or physical damage.

(Sorry for my english, it was a long week)

Thanks, Erik

I can have my 5670 on my desk all day with no problem of overheating.

I usually never shut my pc off as I use it as a desktop pc.

I bought that EZ LAP as a bonus, since it was so cheap too

I haven't seen any overheating here yet, what happens when the system overheats, does it shut off or something?

I am pretty sure P4s throttle down when they overheat...kind of like a rev limiter on a car, preventing "boom". This is unlike athlons that will crash, or melt sh*t if their cooling system fails.

this video is a good example, its been linked a few times on this board, but i still love it, take a peek.

the nexus is great. i use it with my prostar 8593( i know its not an 8887, but it's close heat wise without a cooler..) I cant really wear shorts and use the nexus with my laptop, because it's too cold... LOL anyway heres a review

When I want to use my 8887 on my lap, I just use a Where's Waldo book. Thanks to this thread:
