i just called alienware :P

Thread Starter
just for the hell of it, i just called alienware to ask about their area 51-m, & i mentioned to him that there seemed to be a company named sager that offered the exact same system, aside from the fact that the sager machine had double the video memory, and asked him why i should buy from alienware, when i could get a better system, spec-wise, for about 1300 cheaper from this "sager" company...it took him a moment to respond, but then came back with "If they can sell you a system like that for 1300 less than us, they have to be using cheaper-grade products..."

I then mentioned Clevo, heh, and, before i could ask anything else, he hung up on me....

Just thought everyone could use a laugh

LMFAO Good one man

Nice.

Next time, approach them with the "What's the difference between A51m and this generic-looking CLEVO one I saw..." type of question.

Ah, we could be at this for hours with the poor slouch on the other end of the Alienware phone. Guess we shouldn't bug them so they can take all those calls asking where the HT is in the alien 51m that they've promised.

HAHA! I just had a similar experience. I called them to ask a few questions about warranty, as to whether or not its transferrable, and BOY oh boy, the people are idiots, first, customer service is only open regular business hours, and their 24/7 tech support...hah thats a joke. I was onl hold for 30 minutes(playing a game of freelancer...) and eventually just hung up because it was pointless, yes, this was at 10pm on a monday night, but still, if they boast something they better well back it up.

Aside from this crappy hold times, when i called yesterday, and actually spoke to someone, it was some lady who i could not understand, she spoke broken english with a hispanic accent, and she did not know her hip bone from a laptop. She was very incompetent....phew, WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY FROM THOSE BLOKES!!!??? I think i might call and ask about clevo....im pretty bored

OMG! That is to funny.

props to the first person to call them, and very politley inquire about clevo, while recording it and post it here! :-)

I'm surprised that they hung up on you. If you call their tech support guys they will never hang up on you. They may only know one fact, but they will repeat that one fact for half an hour if they have to, even if it is wrong.

Ironically, if it wasn't for Alienware I would have never heard of Sager. They're not so bad. They fulfill a useful function, really. Marketing.

I agree...I would never have thought of a gaming laptop let alone discover sager without their marketing blitz.

I once e-mailed alienware a question and after several days, I got a response. And I guess it was this lady, but she had typos in her letter and bad spelling. lol. yeah, I'd love to buy from you, alienware.

I too found Sager from alienware

Was looking seriously into either a desktop or laptop Dell/IBM/SONY/...., then found the M51, the best mobile gaming laptop I could find. Then thought, hmmm, maybe a google or two about moble gaming laptops would be good. Found Prostar, and sager, (thats funny.....they look identical to the M51) and eventually stumbled across this forum. Learned about ODM's like Clevo from the powernotebooks website (that article really opened my eyes). Lurked for a few weeks, got lots of info, and purchased my 5660 from PCtorque. And lived happily ever after.

I find it interesting that the only 3 sager venders I ever considered, happen to be the ones that are now the only endorsed ones on this forum. I bought well before this forum had rules... or Mrykat or GS or Yale..... I think this is because, after spending some time perusing their sites, calling with questions and such, it became more obvious to me that they would in fact provide the service they claim to provide. Place like ResellerRatings and such were so helpful for me for that. Anyway, I love it when people hang up on you for busting them. I hope others have these epxeriences too, but please guys, be nice, you don't really need to make enemies to prove a point, it's just fun sometimes.

That's pretty much how I discovered Sager, PCTorque and this great Forum.

- Thanx Alienware.

WOW, that is exactly what happened with me too. I was looking at the 51m and was a bit turned off by the price. I did some more looking and found out about powernotebooks.com. At which point I decided to get the 8887 instead of the 5660 - 51m. This was all before I even knew about these forums. I can't quite remeber exactly how I found out about Sager though.

I read Computer Shopper and Maximum PC at work, and somehow had the Sager, Prostar and Alienware ads in front of me without knowing they were all related. I did a websearch on the laptop models and found this forum. Browsed all the threads and decided on the Sager 8887

At first I didn't know who to order from - Sager or PCTorque. Of course, resellerratings.com convinced me to go with PCTorque!

As for the Alienware laptop, I can only imagine how much they'd be charging if they sold the 8887 model

I think think they did at one time just like Hypersonic and Voodoo carry an 8887 model. When I first started looking at laptops Aliienware had 2 on their website.

The Area 51M led me to Sager also. I read a review somewhere like cnet or something where someone mentioned the Sager's then I found Powernotebooks.com, and eventually this froum.

Actually, they were both the 56XX series. They had the hive-mind and the area-51m. The hive-mind was a bit less expensive and contained a mobile pentium 4 (but they dropped that line). Both looked the same though and were in the same case (except the hive was always in blue, and the 51m in green). I don't ever recall alienware carring the 888X series.

Yea I stumbled onto sager because I was looking into a area 51m and asked about it on cgtalk.com , and someone there kindly, and im gratefull they did, point me at sager. Now I want one of these machines so bad but I think im going to TRY and wait for the M10 and 800fsb model.

As for the recording the call thing, if I had something to record the call id do it in a second.
