I saw these up close just the other day, they are awesome. There is also a much smaller 80 GB version, and a really tiny 20 GB one.

LaCie is a good name too... they're making the bigger disk. It's pretty much 4 of those linked for a terabyte of storage.

Just for comparison purposes (in the States, at least), true deals for storage hover at or aroung $0.50 per GByte.

Not that long ago picked up a 250 GByte drive (March perhaps? Would have to filter through my receipts and rebate forms to be certain) for approximately $119.99 + tax (approximately $135 total), which several users noted as merely an "average" deal. Firewire (IEE1394a) and/or USB 2.0 enclosures can be found for approximately $30 to $35 rather readily. The two teamed together would be $165 to $170, in comparison to $260.75 for the above mentioned drive ($239.99 + tax @ 8.65%).

Storage can be found more inexpensively, if one looks and shops around carefully.

I have a LaCie 160GB external HDD which I bought for 179 euros.

Its very good, though does tend to get a bit hot whilst transferring many many GB across.

Also, each time u want to use it you have to turn on the power switch on the back, THEN plug it into the USB port. If you just leave it plugged in and turn on the power, it doesnt support long file names for some reason...

Also, ull prolly need a USB extension cable to use it as the USB cable supplied is about 30cm long.

Other than that, its a great drive.

I agree I bought a USB2.0 enclosure for about 30$ and put a 120GB HD I already had in it. It has worked great ( just a word of warning however i fyou by an enclosure with a new unformatted drive you will have to format it first before you use it in the enclosure) Im filling up my 120GB drive though I need at least a 200 or 250

Untrue, actually. Once the drive is inserted in the enclosure, and properly powered, simply right click on "My Computer", and select "Manage". Should receive the "Computer Management" window, as shown below.

Often after opening "Computer Managment", Windows will detect new, uninitialized storage and open a wizard. However, one can initialize (right click on "Disk X"), format, partition, assign logical drives, etc. all from within "Computer Management", under the Storage\Disk Management section:

Hmm I tried that and I couldnot get my fiends drive to recognize that way i had to put it in my desktop and format it first before the drive would even show up anywhere. It could haave just been the type of enclosure we where using.

Thanks for the input about drive enclosures and such. I remember Jamaster or someone got an alienware drive enclosure. Anyone heard anything else about it? ...hopefully it's not overpriced...
