Acer 8003 problem

Thread Starter
My month old Travelmate 8003lmi completely died when I was working today without warning, no lights, no signals, all of the sudden nothing. I was plugged in and not using the battery. When I tried to reboot, it would not work after repeated attempts. The only thing I had done to perhaps cause this was to move to notebook about a quarter inch on the desk.

I took the battery out and tried it only on ac. It booted up. Then I turned it off and put the battery back in. It booted up again.

Anyone have ay idea what happened?

Do I need to call Acer? I had one of the worst tech support people I've ever experienced when trying to register the notebook with Acer. (Their on-line system was not working and he was getting angry with me---go figure.) I really dont want to talk with them again if it's not necessary. But if this is a problem with the machine, I had better take care of it.

Thanks for any advice you can give

That sounds like Acer's voltage protection kicking in it locks out the battery and AC IN.

If it ever happens again remove the battery and the ac adaptor from the machine for 2-3 mins then reconnect should be fine.

May have just been a spike or something wouldnt worry about it.

I had the same exact problem with my old laptop (an HP) It did the same thing. It wouldn't boot up until I took out the battery and put it back in, then it shut off again. The problem was a bad motherboard, hope you still have your warranty.
