Received Laptop Today! A few questions

Hi everyone,

I got my laptop today. Thanks to everyone that helped me out! A few quick questions while I check out the system.

I got a Hitachi screen, but I don't think it's really that bad. There's a little bit of light leakage, but unless it's in a pitch-black room, it's really not that noticible. During DVD playback I can sort of tell, but it's nothing distracting. If it's a new Hitachi, then it's another mark supporting that they fixed it. There's a bit of ghosting, but movies seem to play ok and I'm going to try some gaming to really test it out.

I did notice at the bottom left and bottom right are two dark "smudges". It's not really that noticible, though it really shows up in monitor tests. (All color screens show the black smudges.) Is this fairly common?

Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with it. Thanks everyone for their help!

Edit: Ok, played a little CounterStrike. It is ok. A little blurry. I noticed there is some when using my scroll wheel. Another example is that the icon looks like there are 3 or 4 hammers. Not sure if that's common or not. The blurring is a bit annoying, but if it's fairly standard, then I can live with it.

The ghosting that you have described is fairly normal, there is still a bit on every one of these LCD displays, noticeable in games, etc. If it was bad then you would definately know about it.

That light leakage that you describe is also well within normal, a good display actually if it is only noticeable in a pitch black room, or a tiny bit during DVD playback.

Those smudges.... I am not quite sure of. Can you please be more specific on what they look like. Have you tried to wipe them off, make sure they are not just something on the LCD?

Sounds OK though, the smudges are the only thing that is sounding a little suss, a pic of these would be good.

Thanks! I'm pretty sure that the monitor is fine. I read a trick on here that someone mentioned of turning off the laptop, remove the battery and hold down the power button for 10 seconds. It seemed to help what little light leakage I had.

The smudges really aren't that bad. I was running a one of those monitor diagnostic programs and when it displayed an all-solid color (white was the most noticible) then I could see that at the corners it would gradually darken to black. It isn't a smudge on the scrren ... it's definitely the display, but it's not really a big deal. It's one of those things I wouldn't have noticed except after using the diag. program. I'll try to get screen shots asap, but I think I'm ok.

I'm pretty sure these are all within the average LCD screen.

the two bottom corners on my screen is slightly dimmer than the rest of the mon. it kinda got distracting so when I wanna read the time in the taskbar so I just moved my entire taskbar to the top and added a dock to the bottom. no more problems now lol.
