Slow CD burner?

Anyone else having a problem with their CD-RW/DVD combo drives? Mine starts at 8X and ends at 11x-13x. Never sees 16x. I have tried a bunch of different brands of CDrs. I see that this drive is a Z-clv type, which sucks, but never hits 16X. This is with no other programs running within WinXP.

Yeah, remember that the 16x is MAX, lol. I love the fine print. :-) Usually the rates depend on the ability of the drive to spin the disk, so as it gets further out it doesn't have to spin the disk as quickly and thus it increases speed. Have you checked to see how its other rates are? The read speed and such?

My Desktop CD-RW is supposed to be 16x MAX but it was burning at 16.12 earlier, so heh, not always the other way round.

And what the hell, it says Audio Extraction at 24x, I havnt got above 2.5x, and that is really not impressing me.

You haven't gotten above 2.5x period?? Have you been using old cds that only read at a max speed of something low? How are you measuring this?

I have tried quite a few CD's.....

i.e.

Daft Punk ORiginal Album
Will Smith Big Willie Style
Some Random Brand new CD
MJ History, etc.

They are always below 2.6x.....

The speed is going by what the program says it is.

Hmm... what program? I just ask because of maybe compatability issues with the program itself or maybe it is an inaccurate report of speed (have you noticed that it is actually taking that long to finish stuff?). That's pretty weird though...

What program is it though? Have you checked its troubleshooting guide and such or if it has a hardware compatability guide to see if your burner is supported? I know some programs that have problems like that with different hardware. It is mostly software compatability and support.
