now am i seeing things?

My screen seems to occasionally alter brightness. It's as though it's trying to adjust somthing, and it really is noticable, to a certain extent. when i am using a white screen (notebookforums, illustrator) it flickers brighter, and dimmer but VERY subtly. I don't know if it occurs because all LCDs do, or because of a certain driver. Maybe i am just seeing things. But i have noticed it for the last week or so, and may remember it from even longer ago.



i guess i can live with it, not that big a deal, but am i the only one?

Is this on battery or AC power? Sometimes, when on battery, the LCD backlight will reduce it's brightness as a power-savings measure (so I've heard). If it's often, then it could be something wrong with the LCD - I would doubt it's a driver, but I could be wrong.

This is often the behavior when a backlight is beginning to fail. Unfortunately, the same behavior is often observed with a loose or faulty connection.

Would suggest monitoring it closely, and be certain to have it checked out prior to any warranty period lapsing.

yeah, i agree with that. my warranty ends somewhere in the midst of august and september, so they will definately be hearing back from me before then, regarding this issue. Myrkat, it occurs primarily while plugged. it just sorta goes in and out of brightness, but nary enough to really get too excited about. if a fault connection, where do i go to fix it myself.

unfortunately while my laptop was in the shop, i told them to check out the monitor because of the flickering, but to no luck did they even take the time to. :grr:

will post my findings after a few days of monitering it in all situations. thanks for the help. peece1

I haven't even had my 8890 that long and I've had this problem for a while. I think it is caused by a bad connection to the AC Power thing, it only has problems with that. Off AC it's fine. Turning down the brightness one notch can also fix it.

Then it sounds like it may be power-related (either the ac adapter isn't clean, or the power connection(s) inside the laptop).

Sounds like it's trying to stay "super-bright" (since it is on AC), but a faulty connection (or unlcean power source) is triggering the dim-cycle. I'd give Sager a call or e-mail and work with them on this; they may have a few case histories and resolutions.

My 5620 seems to do that when I return to Windows after playing openGL games. Just for about 10secs or so.
