Acer question

i was asking a friend of mine if he liked his acer and all that. he said hes had to replace his motherboard twice since he got it which was like 2/3 years ago.

my question is: is this common with acers or did he just get a dud? if i got an acer should i be concerned by this?

I was also told horror stories about Acer laptop motherboards recently before buying my 2012WLMi, it just so happened that the shop who's owner told me these stories had recently recieved distributor rights to Asus laptops (they still had some Acer models).

Comparing the two models which matched my requirements (Asus M6N - 1.5Ghz Pentium M, 64mb Radeon 9600, 15.4" WXGA), I chose the Acer because it offered slightly better value for money (a 4x +, - and RAM dvd burner, despite shopkeepers telling me it was only 2x - the similarly priced Asus had a combo drive, although a 4x + and - burner was an optional extra), as well as the slightly better mobility 9700 and (in my opinion) very slightly better overall build quality over the Asus.
