BIOS Updates - 888E Series Notebooks (8882/8886/8887) - Page 2

Perhaps someone else could post the updates if they get them. Maybe Adam would consider it?

Has anyone actually gotten the latest BIOS from the Clevo site for the 8887? I visit that site everyday and can't get the file. It's an FTP address but it doesn't allow anonymous access. It's killing me knowing that there's a BIOS update and I'm barred from getting it... guh... I wish they'd make the page private... being able to see the updates but not get it is torture!

Okay, I feel better now

It's not a new BIOS in those 5/8/03 directories... just a couple of pictures... the latest 8887 BIOS is still the 4/17 dated BIOS.

Redundant, I don't know how or why, but clicking on your link took me to the files! Thanks I type in that exact address all the time and I can't get in, but today it works... wow

Myrkat, that's the BIOS file I was looking for... but like you said I kept coming up with the HTML files previously.

Whee, flashing tonight! Thanks again Redundant

Flashed!

For those of you who are curious what this latest BIOS does... I'm not certain of all the fixes, but the apparent one is that the feature to disable Power Saving in the BIOS has been eliminated. I sometimes had the 8887 freeze when coming out of standby, and after running tests for the last half hour, it seems to be fixed.

This calls for a beer or make that a coffee... I'm out of suds till payday, dagnabbit

All well and good for the 8887 but every once and awhile my 8886 will freeze coming out of standby.

The 888E Bios files are at ftp://ftp.clevo.com.tw/888E/BIOS/ and it has the 305 version. I haven't installed it yet, but I plan to check my current bios in a minute here.

I just got my laptop yesterday, so it could already have the latest.

that was a bad idea BORK

305 version is for Hyperthreading version!

I borked it. Ran the update and now my display is all goofy. Now I'm going to try re-doing with 2.02 blindly.

I take no responsibility if you screw up your machine.

How to unbork a bad BIOS update. This work only if the computer is still bootable.

Get on another computer and download the previous working version from ftp.clevo.com.tw
Unzip the FP.exe Flash.exe and *.bin file to your floppy disk.

Put the floppy in your Borked machine.
Boot you'll here the floppy grind a bit.
Type fp 888ERxxx.bin where xxx is the good version of the bin file. It'll then make some noise.
Press the spacebar it should start flashing. It'll beep when it's done. Remove the floppy then reboot. Hopefully you'll be unborked.

And on a final edit:
Version 2.x of the 8886 the BIOS chip is soldered to the MB so if you bork it completely you have to replace the MB (or desolder the BIOS chip and replace it) Newer models the BIOS is socketed so they can pop it in a PROM programmer and reflash it.

Question? What version of bios did you try to update to when you borked it? I am wondering if anyone had gotten the 64mb HT bios to load on the 8886... Or even tried?
I tried the 64mb HT BIOS but my processor is a 2.4Ghz no HT.

Now posted on the Eurocom website !

This newest BIOS has been posted on Eurocom's web site (my lappy is Eurocom).

I will install and find out what's going on with it !

The site does not list the fixes unfortunately.

bios

I'm not touching that thing 'til I know exactly what this update fixes and a few people (who are braver than me) try this thing out. Last thing I need right now is to fry the bios on my new laptop. *cring*

Well I installed the BIOS and everything went smoothly...

I called Eurocom and they said Clevo didn't tell them what the BIOS fixed...

Why not ask Clevo directly ??? I did that... Unfortunately the US support email they gave me does not exist anymore...

I'll keep you posted...

As for being brave... I kept the previous BIOS upgrade diskette... If there is anything wrong all I need to do is reflash the older version.

Official reply by Eurocom:

"Hello,

The currently available H/T BIOS v3.05.128. is the first official BIOS for that model with H/T. therefore listing of fixes is not available as there are none.

Also, we have not had any reports of systems freezing as you describe, hence we if you wish for us to further trouble shoot your problem, the unit would need to be sent in for service."

What a bunch of

So presumably the 56DS303_128 and 56DS303_64 bios files for the 5660 are only for hyperthreading machines as well?Has anyone tried them yet,or for that matter does anyone even have a 5660 or 5670 with these bioses installed??
