"Total Satisfaction Return Policy" Questions

Hi all,

As you may know, I have already purchased an Inspiron 8600 (see this thread). Unfortunately, I have come to the conclusion that the WUXGA is too trying on my eyes (along with the fact that Dell is offering another 20% off coupon! ) and that I wish to return it for a refund under Dell's "Total Satisfaction Return Policy". For those who have done this before (or for those that are "in the know" ), I have a few questions regarding how this works.

1. I plan on requesting the return for credit through this form on Dell's site. How long does it typically take for them to get back to you after you submit the form.

2. How exactly does the shipping the laptop back to Dell work? Does Dell take care of the shipping charges? What is the best way to ship the laptop back to Dell? I plan to use the same packaging that I received the laptop in. (I see something about "prepay shipping charges" but I'm not exactly sure what this entails.)

3. When I configured the laptop, I seleted Windows XP Home in order to save money. As soon as I received the laptop, I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled windows with my own unused copy of Windows XP PRO that I've had for awhile. Do I need to wipe the hard drive again and put on their copy of XP home. Mainly I'm worried about them not accepting it back since I put my own copy of XP on it. And I have nothing of personal value on the laptop, so that's not an issue.

4. How long does it take to get the credit back for the laptop?

Thanks in advance for the help! If I can think of anything else I'm paranoid about, I'll be sure to post it here.

not sure if its the same where you are.. but i have requested to send mine back and have been informed that i have to pay for shipping charges. they organise to send someone to your house to pick it up.. i should be getting a call from bax global soon.

might be a good idea to give it a quick format and reinstall the version it came with just to be safe.. i dont see why it would make any difference though..

apparently it can take quite a while to get the money back... upto a month from what i have heard

also might be a good idea to make up something other than you have changed your mind on the screen type for a reason.. when i was ringing to returning mine i was put through to quite a few different people and each one questioned me as to why i was returning it quite a few times..

Actually it took about 1 week for me to get my refund.
I set back an inspiron 5150 and bought a 9100.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Does anyone else have any info regarding the policy? I'm going to send in the online return form to Dell today or tomorrow and am still unsure about a few things.

Thanks in advance!

The best way to solve problems.

When in doubt, call dell.

I did the online form but I also called them the next day to confirm and they just went ahead and told me the RMA number over the phone along with sending it and the shipping info to my email account.

Yeah, definately call as well to make sure they recieve it.... you don't want the period to end and they haven't recieved it or you may be stuck.
