ATI 9700 with 256MB???

i wanted to know whether setting the GPU to 128MB in the bios will actually decrease the heat and increase battery life or no? it seems to me like most of current games don't require 256MB of VRam and so i think that often, 128MB would be enough. but i unless it improves battery life and increases heat, i don't think it's worth changing it.. or am i wrong?

can it cause any problems to switch back to 256MB later on without doing a reformat or re-install?

That setting has nothing to do with what you are stating. It is the amount of "overflow" that can be allocated if the GPU needs it - nothing more. Set it at 128MB and forget it would be my advice.

I'll second mr G. there. As advised set to 128Mb and forget about it.

didn't someone a while back say its best to set it to half of the amount of ram in the notebook?

Might have been said; however, that doesn't make it accurate. Take a look at page 5-9 of the 8790 manual - for the recommented setting.
