asus M6N questions

im a student in need of a notebook for college. i would use it mostly for schoolwork (typing, coding), web surfing, and the occassional gaming. ive done some serious searching, and i think that the asus M6N is the perfect one for me. however, i do have some questions concering its configuration:

1. how much does it weigh with the battery? ive seen several different weights with different setups, but i think the average weight is between 6-7 lbs

2. i would like to get the 15.1" screen, but i have heard much about its problem with pixels and the gradient issue. is the 15.4" screen a bit too excessive, especially for my needs? and is it stuck in widescreen?

3. since battery life is paramount, i need a secondary battery. is there a specific that i should purchase, or will a generic secondary battery do?

4. is PROPortable a respected reseller?

thank you so much for the help. I LOVE THIS PLACE!

what kind of games? (if they're not fps, you can go integrated and get 7 hours of battery time from the M3Np)

I think the lcd issue happens when your viewing angle changes vertically so it's not really a big deal (unless you stand up and sit down a lot while using your computer :P)

as for games, nothing big (starcraft), but i wanted to be able to try other games (KOTOR, UT2004) and dont think that integrated graphics would hold up. plus, a 15.4" screen appeals to me

1. i don't know, but there are plenty of sites that say
2. the widescreen is not 'stuck' in widescreen, you can have bars, it really just gets down to what you want. you get more screen realestate with the 15" (1400x1050) vs. the 15.4" (1200x800). i would reccomend going to a store, and looking at a 15" SXGA+ and comparing it to a 15.4" WXGA, so you have a better idea of what you want.
3. The M6x has an additional battery that goes in place of the optical drive. the optical drive comes out, the additional battery goes in. they are easily switched, it is a matter of clicking a switch.
4. do you own research on proportable. resellerratings.com
Justin, the owner, is a nice guy. they seem to be fine. but do your own research so you can feel comfortable about it.

Hope that helps.
Next time, don't bump the post 3 times.

The M6N is probably a good choice for you. You want to try new games you said but you are not a frequent player so the 9600 with 64 ram is fine.

for the screen issue someone mentioned in another post that unless the non widescreen displays are labeled as "MVA" you can pretty much guarantee that it will have gradient issues. How bad are they? well i haven't seen it myself but some say its not that bad and some hate it to the death.

15.4" widescreen will allow you to fit the display to the screen of display in 4:3 with the black bars on the side. The distortion is not that much IMO and it doesn't take long to get used to. But i noticed you said you play starcraft. That game will not look good on widescreen display.

Another reason the asus m6n is good choice for you is that it can support 2 batteries, but u cannot use the optical drive at teh same time. If you wan real 2 battery support you will need a desktop replacement type notebook with 3 spindles.

and yes proportable is a respectable resller.
