m6805 vs Dell9100

Hi,

I have bought a 6805 and I really like it. It has everything I need in a laptop and more. So far games run well, wireless is great and everything works well. Bought it at Best Buy for $1499 ($1399 with Rebate).

The only thing I dont like is the 64mb ATI 9600. I have configured a 9100 with a PIV 3, WXGA, 512RAM, 40GB HD, ATI 9700 128 MB, CDRW/DVD, wireless 802.11b/g all for $1458 with shipping.

How is thh audio on the Dell, it is a little weak on the 6805. What about the weight of the 9100?

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,

I own a Dell 9100. I always was interested in the eMachines M6** series. Mark, be happy with your decision. The 64mb on the gpu won't have any significant difference. In fact, the AMD performs quite well head to head with the Dell 9100. As for sound, the Dell prolly has better speakers (but come on, laptop speakers should never be a factor in buying a laptop... that's what headphones are for.) Both have onboard sound cards, so that's the same.

But one thing the Dell i9100 has that the eMachines doesn't is girth. The i9100 is a monster, weighing in a bit over 9 lbs. So, take that into consideration, respective of your need for mobility. So don't worry about it. You'll be fine.

I was worried about the size of the Dell. The only thing I want in a laptop that I do not hvae in the 6805 is a 128 mb Video card. I play games a lot buy I dont need a desktop replacement but I do want a alptop that could still play games well for the next few years.

I think the 9100 i sthe only other laptop that i can get for the price of the 6805.

Thanks,

Mark

What?

Your willing to give up your M6805 for more video memory? The M6805 already has plenty of video memory, especialy for a laptop. Even if you do see this as a "small" amount of memory, take into consideration that this is a laptop: things are slightly smaller. Besides, the 64mb 9600 does outstandingly well. Since you seem like a performance lunatic (like me), you could also look into overclocking the 9600 for it does this quite easily.

Just a thought...

I think 8600 is a better system than 9100, for both mobility and battery life.
It also comes with ATI 9600 128mb video card.
WIth the 60GB 7200 rpm drive, it is a great machine for both gaming and working.

You have the better bang for the buck in your m6805

It will be tought to match the price and features of the 6805. Most of the ones that have the 128mb Video are usually heavier or lack a few options.

You also don't get to be a proud owner of an AMD64 processor...

dell 9100 has bad battery life too, only around 1 hr 25 minutes.

BTW, where did you find that centrino comp? thats a pretty good deal too

Found the centrino here:

http://www.internetishop.com/product...1&item=556C17U

and it is olny 5.5 lbs. They have a 30 day return policy so I might buy oen adn compare wit he 6805. I can return the 6805 to best buy if I need to.

i think the 64mb is enough for the WXGA screen. nothing you buy now will play games out in a few years.

Best bang for your buck: Dell i9100 (decent price, great performance... heavy as a mother)

Best all-around: Dell i8600 (most pricey of the three, new dothan processors rock w/ 128mb ati)

Best bang for your buck/all around: eMachines m68** (reasonable price, comparable performance to above two, light-weight)

So if you have a lot of cash to throw around, go with the i8600. If not, I'd go with the eMachines.
