Here are the specs of my new Alien badboy
P4 3.4 MHZ
1 Gig 400MHZ Corsair XMS
2 74 Gig 10,000RPM WD Raptor Raid 0
1 160 Gig 7200 RPM SATA storage drive
Radeon x800PRO
NO Alien Adrenaline
SB Audigy Platinum ZS
Plextor 8x DVD +-RW
16x Lite-On DVD Rom
Arrived in beautiful condition even thought he box was half mangled in shipment by FedEx. The PC looks just like the pictures however the case is HUGE in person. This is definately not your average ATX case. It is much taller much deeper and much wider. (Behemoth of a Case) but it is excellently designed and not cheap looking at all in person.
Out of the box the only thing I did was install the latest Radeon Catalyst drivers. Every Windows Update had been done for me, everything was excellently and maticulously checked as I could find no problems with paging file, drivers or anything else. (Pro job here) The cabling job was crisp, clean, and top notch for airflow.
On to the Benchmarks!
1. I fired up the Quake 3 Demo and got 329 fps to verify against what the Alienware build document said. I was actually 2 fps above their score out of the box with the Radeon driver updated.
2. Loaded up UT2004 and tracked fps during VERY heavy battles with vehicles going on and never dropped below 70 fps!
3. On to the good stuff 3dMark 2003 (freeware version) out of the box score with only Catalyst drivers updated....an unbelievable 9722! Yes that was 9722!! Now the interesting thing here is the x800PRO performs better at higher resolutions and this test was done in 1024x768 resolution as the settings cannot be changed on the freeware version.
More to come with Aquamark scores and 3DMark2003 PRO resolution variation scores!
Needless to say the Aurora boys DO NOT have a clear advantage on my baby from what I've seen. I am very happy with my purchase.
