Might want to get the facts straight before spreading information like that. If you saw one guy doing it, that's one thing (someone who obviously needs to be fired), but to say that the company does it as a whole is just stupid, IMO.

exactly, never have i seen this "kicking and throwing" as he stated

yeah, guess it doesn't happen if YOU didn't see it right? such logic.

And..... if you saw four idiots and they were all the same nationality, would you then conclude that the entire population of that nation are idiots?? Believe Toast indicated that he had actually worked a a couple of UPS locations and probably has seen more packages being shipped and received than all of us combined.

since we seem to bad sharing UPS stories

ordered my 5690, got UPS shipping number, arrived exactly when they said it would in perfect condition. never had any problems with UPS or FedEx

any company will have it share of horror stories, UPS doesnt go out of its way to damage packages

The POINT is, i'm told to get my facts straight. The facts are perfectly clear as I saw them with my own eyes. I only gave my direct observation and am letting everyone else fill in the blanks on the UPS thing, which they are doing quite nicely.

So..... to you they are all idiots.... and everyone else needs to make up their own minds.

I think I understand now.... kind of like some political stands (both left, right, and "none of the above").

ok, I have to add my bit in here. Ive lost things from both fedex and UPS. They both tried to call me a lier, and not pay for there mistake. All i can say is when you finely start getting a hold of CEO's... they stop messing with you and cave in. On the other hand I did purchase insurence and had the papers to prove it.

There arguement was that I over insured it. Well I basicly had a lawyer call them and say that I paid for the insurence. It could have been nother more than air... but if i paided for 5,000 worth of insurence then by god if they lose it its there problem,

Fedex and UPS has lost packages with me, so i dont hate one over the other. But I perfer UPS due to the time they get here, and I always try to ship airborn express because out of the countless shipments sent and recieved they have yet to lose one, or have it not arrive by the scheduled time.

Fedex is no better than UPS. The ups here you cant get them to leave packages on the doorstep no matter how much you want them to. I've left notes on the door signed saying leave the package on the step and they havnt done it, so I guess that is a plus

UPS and FED EX should just merge and form a company called,
FED UP
just my .02

Hmm, I'm ordering a CL56 from ShopRBC in a few days. Their shipping is 9$ UPS flatrate. I will, of course, demand a sig-on-delivery (I'll be paying by VISA, so apparently they will have to anyhow?), but what about insurance? If UPS loses the thing and I just paid 9$ shipping, what can I do?

Should I ask ShopRBC to charge me extre for shipping to have it insured for the value?

I wouldn't ship my worst enemy without insurance. I'd like to get some money if something goes wrong and they loose or break the package.

i guess ill add my story to the thread. My package was shipped out 9-14-04. i checked the tracking on the 20th there was still no up date from 9-15-04. i called the local ups yesterday(9-21-04) inquire on the where abouts of my package. they told me without requesting my tracking number that it was on its way. five hours later i called them after running into the ups guy up stairs sleeping on the 7th floor, because he stated he didnt have my package. a guy answered the phone and asked for my tracking number then placed me on hold. a lady answered the phone(the same lady from earlier) and told me that it was in the trailer outside. i asked her was it possible for me to come pick it up and she said it was behind 1000 boxes and they werent going to move those boxes for my package.

today i called the ups 1-800 number. they stated that my package is in new orleans(an hour away) and it has been delayed due to emergency conditions beyond their control. she GUESS i will get it tomorrow. you can imagine how pissed i am. i mean its bad that they werent helpful or at least pretending to be helpful..but its worse to lie to me about the location of my package just to rush me off of the phone...by the way none of the ups people that i spoke to can confirm or describe the emergency condition that is going on...

I think we should email this thread to them....

Where I live, both are about the same. Fedex is a little better at delivering to me... UPS is better delivering stuff away from me

Both have nice drivers that come to me, although Fedex's is a nice chick Both ask for signatures if needed. I had one UPS guy drop my new monitor on the ground in front of me... was taking it out of his truck by the plastic strap and it broke. Fell onto the concreate.. crushed the foam in the corner, but all was ok.

Shipping packages, Fedex is very very picky unless you just do the drop box thing. They won't ship laptops except in THEIR package that costs like $20! Otherwise they won't insure it!? That's stupid. I can go to UPS and just say "ship this" and they'll ship it! They'll repackage it if needed but they don't have all the stupid rules that Fedex has.

Oh, and don't even try to ship a Fedex air box using Fedex ground, they won't accept it. I ended up shipping the Fedex box using UPS That would confuse some people... the UPS guy is holding a Fedex box LOL!

SeC, that sucks Hopefully you get squared away. Sounds like you've got some real winners down in your area

hex, as for just shipping things, when I worked for UPS, one of my jobs was being the person taking packages and I was pretty strict. I fought with customers all the time. I've had them call me just about every name in the book, yell/scream/curse at me... even had permission to tell a select few that they could go to FedEx (ie- we don't WANT you here no mo'!) But I was that way for a reason. I made sure that every package that I took was going to make it (at least to the best of my abilities). One highly abusive customer even came in at a later date and apologized after she realized that what I was doing was for her benefit.

What "rules" does FedEx have? I don't recall ever having shipped through them before, so I've got no clue. Received plenty from them (thank you, compuexpert.com/gogamer.com ), though. My litmus test was this:
-If I shake it, will it break?
-If I turn the box end over end (basically, the 6-sided test), will it break?
-If the box drops onto the floor from about counter/waist level, will it break?
Some of that's official UPS and other intangible parts were my own (like looking at customers' faces and gauging their responses. Surprising how poor some are at lying!).

As for FedEx boxes, many people brought USPS or FedEx boxes in thinking I'd give 'em new boxes. Pffffffffftp. I thought it was hilarious. Didn't bother me to use someone else's box Hey, they paid for it! (well, I guess, as a taxpaying citizen, I helped pay for the USPS box- might as well not waste it)
